“Gone downhill”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

I first stayed at this cave hotel in 1997 and gave it a good report then , I have just returned and sadly found that it has slipped down in all departments, the first thing I did not like was reception demanding payment on arrival, I questioned it and was told that this was company policy and that was that , I was then told that if I wanted a TV remote control I would have to pay a deposit of 10 euros, at the same time they loaned me an electric kettle without deposit, the hotel is OK for one night as a bit of a novelty, it certainly is different but would not reccommend for longer stays, the on site restaurant is in the process of being updated and has lost all of its old charm with modern furnishings, also the prices have gone up as well, starters are all around 6 to 9 euros and main courses average out at about 14 euros, I consider this expensive for the type of cafe/restaurant it is, the room rate has now increased to nearly 70 euros a night which for this area is very high, I would suggest looking around for a better quality hotel, overall a very disapointing stay.................

“very bus choice”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

Room did not smell fresh, the outside area was not well kept, and there was no hot water. It took us an hour to find the place even though we had a gps. Wen we mentioned that in the reception.Te girls said that she knows that because everyone is complaining about it. Swimming pool is old and not well kept.

“site under construction, large digger at our entrance,”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

Stayed one night at Cuevas Pedro Antonio, the area we were in was in poor repair and we had a very large digger parked at our entrance, not attractive. Reception staff spoke good english, but it is a resort were you have to pay deposits for everything, tv control, swim towel etc etc and no smiles. Would not recommend this hotel, however the city of Guadix is lovely we had a fantastic meal out (despite been told by reception we would not fins any food bar in the hotels restaurant). In addition the cave smelt very very stuffy, possibly as it had not been stayed in for a while but would expect given we pre booked that the rooms would be aired before arrival.

“Fun place much better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2010

Staying in a cave is a fun experience although the rooms are so nice that you hardly realize that you're in a cliff. We stayed two nights in Cave 16, one of their largest. It has two bedrooms, sitting room with fireplace, small kitchen, and modern bathroom reached through a short tunnel. Furniture plentiful and comfortable except not much closet space or drawers. Lighting very good, much better than in most hotels. Four electric heaters were more than enough. Nicely decorated, clean , cute, comfortable. Reception friendly. It really is at least a solid three star but you get no service during the day, no beds made or clean towels, etc. Restaurant is good although far from elegant. Only drawback is that you can't get breakfast before 9 AM and that was said to be only continental - but you have a kitchen so you can rustle up your own with the help of a supermercado a km or so away.

Being next to the freeway, there is some outside noise but inside the room it was very quiet. Parking is free and in front of your cave.

“Cave Hotels, Guadix, Spain”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2010

The cave hotels in Guadix were built into the rock, with a cliff hanging over the top.
The hotel had a great restaurant, and a great pool.
The lady at the reception spoke very good English.
Some of the hotel rooms, (including our's) smelt a lot like cigarette smoke.
It was right next to the freeway, so it was noisy at night.
Because it was in a cave, it felt weird when I first got there, but I got used to it.
