While spending two months in Andalucia, Spain we took a short trip to the Sierra Nevada just before Granada. The Alpujarras lies on the southern slope of the Sierra Nevada and has a series of small villages that provide a good spot to begin hikes into the mountains.
Bubion is a village of whitewashed buildings with slate / tile roofs perched on the edge of the Barranco de Poqueria with views over the hills beyond.
Villa Turistica was built by the Tourist Board of Andalucia to support the small visitor base coming to this region. It's main attraction for us was a nice pool to find respite from the summer heat after a day of hiking. It provides a continental breakfast and has a dining room for dinner. The rooms are basic but have bathrooms and some have a nice view. This is a simple hotel and priced accordingly. I enjoyed a small vegetarian restaurant in town that also had internet access and seemed to be a meeting place for the towns more interesting folks. A nice break for a hike and swim.
