“Something Isn't Quite Right”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

Marriott is a favorite chain of mine, and the Courtyard properties are normally pretty nice. The Courtyard at Atlanta Cumberland Center has seen better days. The property is convenient to many things, but it needs a major overhaul. I have stayed here at least a half dozen times, and although the staff is pleasant and friendly, the check in process always seems a bit labored. I go into some Marriott properties and I'm in my room within a few minutes. Here, I always seem to wait in line to check in and the front desk appears to be understaffed. The rooms I've had the last two visits did not live up to the Marriott standard. Although renovated, they were both old and tired. The rooms are on the small side and the bathrooms are less than acceptable. The bathrooms smelled of something I just can't put my finger on, but needless to say, it was not pleasant. The bath tubs need refinishing or replacement and the sink fixtures were beat up. I was just not impressed with the hotel my last two visits. It may be time to find a new home away from home when in the Atlanta area.

The breakfast set up at the Courtyards needs to be re-thought. This is not an issue with this particular Courtyard, but the brand overall. In my opinion, there needs to be a combination of the old style buffet and the new by the item option. It takes much too long to order, purchase and receive a toasted bagel for instance.

“Looks nice, but really not”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2011

We were not impressed with this Mariott. The rooms looked nice after a recent renovation, but our room was small with uncomfortable beds. The beds really need to be upgraded! When we checked in the front desk person did not realize we should have had 2 queen size rooms ( we were booked with a baseball team playing in the area for 6 days), we never did get the queen size beds. I asked about breakfast, she said there is no continental breakfast. But in fact our team was to have breakfast provided by the hotel each morning. The pool was nice, and the hot tub nice. But the exercise room had a lot to be desired. I was not impressed. It must also be an older hotel, because you can also hear everything that takes place in the hallways.
On a plus side was our housekeeper, she did a nice job cleaning for a family of 4, and added nice little extra touches.

“Not the best Marriott”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2011

Not impressed. I had two beds in my room. After the first night, the maid stripped the other bed that I did not use of the linens. I needed the bed the second night as my husband was arriving. The maids were gone by the time I found out and the manager had to come up and make the bed, which took about 1-2 hours to do. They comped my breakfast the next day to make up for it...but breakfast service is extremely slow. I think they only had 2 people working and must have only had one toaster oven going. It took about 15 minutes to get a toasted bagel. The AC did not work in the gym for the entire 3 nights I was there- it was 79 degrees in the gym. There was no way to turn off the TV in the gym or change th channel.

“Great location to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011

Check in was a breeze. Rooms were standard but clean and comfortable beds, pillows.
We used the hotels free shuttle service to the Cobb Center to see a kids concert and that worked out perfectly. It's $6.00 to park at the Cobb so that was worth waiting 15 min for the return shuttle home. We ate at hotel and service was great. Very reasonable prices and it was fast service. Also breakfast was the same so happy with all of that. We brought a fan due to hallway noise ( thought I read that in a previous review) but didn't really need it, pretty quiet. Lobby has 2 computers for you to access for free. We never got to the pool but looked like lots of kids/families were having a fun time when we checked it out. Nice exercise room. Every staff member we came in contact with was very friendly and wanted to make sure our stay was a pleasant one. I'd return in a heart beat!!

“Need new housekeeping supervisor.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2011

When we arrived it was around 6 pm. We went to our room and everything looked very nice. However, I went into the bathroom and there was gunk stuck on the bathtub inside and out. It would come off it I scraped it with the room key. Then there was a big spot of blood/feces stuck to the outside of the bathtub. I tried to call the front desk using the phone in the room. I pushed front desk and it took me to the housekeeping voicemail. So, I had to go down to the front desk. I told the desk clerk what was wrong and she looked surprised. She said each room is checked and said she would move us. She did not offer anything to compensate us to move all of our belongings--I didn't expect it, but a free bottle of water or something would have been a nice gesture. We moved to the new room and I checked it before bringing everything in. Everything was fine in this room.

However, the beds were not that great. My husband and I rolled to the middle and I woke up with terrible back pain.

The area surrounding the hotel is very nice, but the hotel was lacking in all of the important areas. I would not stay here again.
