On our way to vacation in Florida we stopped for one night June 29th, in Atlanta, Georgia. We had made reservations on June 27th at the Extended Stay America located on 3115 Clairmont Rd. My husband is a big guy, so is my son and I am disabled as well, so we reserved a king suite with a sleeper sofa. At first we were told we would have to rent 2 rooms as ESA does not have room accomodations for 3 adults. It was agreed, after pointing out that 2 adults can sleep in the king bed, and the 3rd adult can sleep in the sofa sleeper, that the hotel simply would charge for the extra person. I stated that my budget for that night was $100.00. I was told the charge would be an additional $10.00 making the total come to $89.59. When I attempted to give my credit card number to hold the reservation,I was told this was unnecessary at ESA and received a confirmation number.
We had been driving all day and would reach the hotel at 6:00pm., so just outside of Atlanta, I called to clarify directions, and was told our room was priced at $179.00 and that this was the room rate for a king suite with a sofa sleeper. I was told my reservation was not held with a credit card, but even if it was, the rate would remain the same. I requested by name to speak with the person who took the reservation-he was off that day and I was told he was new. I requested to speak with the manager-she was gone home and would be back in the morning. I was told there was no way to reach her. I asked for a reduction of the price and was told that even the manager wouldn't be able to change it as it was set by the hotel. I was so tired and in pain. This was no time to search for another hotel. Out of desperation, I took a room with 2 full beds. Needless to say, we had a very rough night!
Also the deadbolt in the room was missing, there was someone's T-shirt on the floor beside the bed, and I killed a roach crawling across the kitchen floor. I reported this to the hotel staff.
I spoke to the manager in the morning who apologized for all of the problems. She stated she would speak to the young man who took the reservations so this would not happen again. She also stated he could replace the deadbolt.
Although the staff, including the manager stayed professional in their response, they were not willing to make provisions in terms of compromise and/or compensation.
