“Courteous staff, nice property, and convenient location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I stayed at the Westin for business recently. The staff were friendly and helpful. The property, which has been fairly recently renovated, was clean and comfortable. The location is convenient to the airport and they provide complimentary transportation to the airport.

I ate at the restaurant twice. Both meals were very good. I would definitely recommend the spinach salad with goat cheese and grilled chicken.

The banquet food was impressive, and that alone would earn the property five stars. We didn't have anything very extravagant, but I had some fried chicken that was absolutely amazing. And though I don't particularly like garbanzo beans, there was a garbanzo bean and jicama salad with cilantro that was very tasty. I even went back for seconds. I also enjoyed the creamy chicken and rice soup served at lunch.

It's a full-service property so, although my group had complimentary Internet included in the room rate, be prepared to dish out the dough for that expense if you stay here. That's pretty common in a full-service property though. It also costs to park, but again, that's common for an airport property in Atlanta.

The property does have an abundance of ladybugs right now (February 2012). Not all rooms are affected, but many are "infested." There was a card in the room that indicated that they are aware of the issue and that the ladybugs just find their way into the hotel looking for warmer temperatures. You can dial 0 to have someone come to sweep them away if they are bothering you, but the card also suggests that some cultures believe ladybugs to be "good luck" and that they cannot harm you in anyway.

I will honestly say that the ladybugs did not particularly bother me, but I do think that some people would find issue with this. I found the "good luck" suggestion to be a bit of a stretch in dealing with a potentially difficult customer relations issue, but I got a chuckle out of it.

Overall, I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The junior suites are very spacious.

Good day MeetingPlanner01!
We appreciate your feedback and are delighted that you had a pleasant stay with us.

We have shared your comments with our Executive Chef about the meals in the restaurant and banquets . We are glad that you were impressed with the fried chicken and garbanzo and jicama salad. We receive a lot of positive feedback on both of those menu items and are pleased that your experience was no exception.

We are sorry that you found lady bugs in your room. We do have them in Georgia, but not typically in the winter. They have been unusually active this year because of the warmer-than-normal temperatures we have had. Some have gotten into a few of our guest rooms. While we are glad that you did not find them particularly annoying, we are very sorry you experienced them. We are taking the appropriate steps to remove them.

We hope to have a future opportunity to welcome you back soon!

“Fine for a night.. Or two”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012 via mobile

Nice staff and good breakfast buffet. Slept well in my simple room.

It is an old hotel that has been refurnished but nobody looked at details. Old electricity plugin points, rosters that havent been cleaned etc. typical chain hotel where nobody takes responsibility that everything has to be perfect.

Fine for a night but can be improved.

We used the valet service of the hotel because it was pouring rain. When we got back in our car the GPS was stolen out of it. I filed a police report and was told that an insurance company would contact us. They pretty much told us "tough". They took no responsibility for the thieves that work there.

Room Tip: Do not stay at this Westin

While our valet service is a separate company with their own insurance carrier, we are concerned about your comments and would be happy to look into them if you would contact us directly. Generally, travelers are expected to protect their valuable personal items, as parking operators do not know what items are in a vehicle and do not have an opportunity to decline accepting responsibility for them. As a Westin, we take our safety and security responsibilities very seriously. We maintain security surveillance on a 24/7 basis, and we have digital video cameras throughout the property that can assist us in our investigation of reported incidents. We are proud of our excellent record of providing a safe and secure experience for our guests. We hope you will contact us for assistance.

“Beware of SHADY telephone charges.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Unfortunately, my husband had to make three collect calls home to Canada while away for work. The hotel used an alternate service to send the calls rather than Canada Direct. This resulted in a 7 minute call costing $44.10, a 13 minute call costing $64.38, and an 18 minute call costing $81.27 for a total of $189.75 plus tax. Our local telephone company told us that some hotels will reroute the calls resulting in bills SEVEN TIMES THE ACTUAL COST. This is one such hotel. VERY UNDERHANDED!

Room Tip: I would suggest another hotel.

Good day Susan C,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your recent visit to Atlanta.

We are sorry the cost of your collect calls to Canada was much more than you anticipated. The base rate the hotel charges for an international call is $7.95 plus a $1.00 per minute. There is also an additional fee that the long distance carrier charges that we have no control over. We did a little research to find AT&T’s current posted rates for a collect calls. The cost of a (1) minute call is listed at $6.99 a minute. The calls you made actually average around $4.50 a minute which represents a savings of $2.49 per minute.

We have our phone charges posted in our guest rooms and do not ry to hide this information from our guests. Our staff is also available to answer any questions pertaining to these charges.

We hope this provides a better understanding of our charges. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can provide any further clarification. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Sincerely,

Bill Henderson

“Simply average...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Booked this hotel prior to a flight out of Atlanta, as I did not want to battle traffic in the morning. If I have another flight out of atlanta, I'd use this approach again, but I would not stay at the Westin. Since it was raining, we decided to eat in the hotel, and I knew it would be expensive. Average food for premium price.

Booked this room through hotwire, otherwise, it would have been a complete ripoff. Paid something like $85, then spent another 100 on dinner, parking, etc. No free internet, business office charges... just goes on and on.

Why I despise "business hotels" of this type. Check out Holiday Inn Express up the road.

Room Tip: Try to get an upper level room. We were on the 3rd floor where there was still a good bit of road n...

Dear CharlieG_11,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your recent visit to Atlanta. We are disappointed that you don't feel you received the value you normally receive at the Holiday Inn Express. We are a full-service, four diamond Westin hotel and we do charge for our services. We work very hard to keep our pricing competitive with other full-service hotels in the Atlanta airport area.

We will continue to develop new services that leave our guests feeling renewed and refreshed. We hope you will give us another opportunity to restore your faith in Westin and our hotel.
