“Good Hotel by Fox Theater in Atlanta!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

In going to Atlanta for shows at the Fox Theater, in the past we had stayed in Buckhead and taken the Metro subway to the theater. This time, based on a friend's recommendation, we booked a room at the Melia Atlanta hotel. What a pleasant surprise!

Our room was quite comfortable, with great duvets on the beds, a balcony with sliding glass doors and a wonderful view of the Georgia Tech stadium. The lobby is very cool, with a Starbucks coffee and bar combination. The concierage was awesome, and gave us an appetizer at the restaurant which he recommended!

At first I thought that the I-75/85 street noise would be a problem, but when the drapes were drawn the sound was quite muffled. And it was an easy walk to the fabulous Fox Theater to see our show. I'd definitely stay there again when we are in Atlanta for another show!

Our room rate included breakfast and it was an excellent breakfast. The buffet was set up and included omelettes or eggs made to order.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper floor - the views are better and the street noise is less.

“good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

The room was spacious, the bed was comfy and I was able to sneak a cig on the private balcony. The staff was the friendliest staff I have encountered in a long time, from the bellman to the check-in clerk to the sports bar staff, all were super friendly and went out of their way to acknowledge us

“Comfortable hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Delivers pretty much what you expect from a 4* Melia in Atlanta. Rooms perfectly satisfactory and comfortable. Downsides; the lobby bar is very dark, even in the day. There is meant to be WiFi internet, and there is, but it was a very frustrating experience, with it regularly cutting in and out while I was working.

“I would return.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I just checked out of the Hotel Melia in Atlanta after my first visit. I was pleasantly surprised. I've known this hotel many years through its several iterations, Stouffer's Hotel, Renaissance Hotel, but it appears that it has been managed by the Spanish chain, Melia, for over 1.5 years.

It has a suggestion of a boutique hotel even though it is a large property. Candles everywhere, funky music piped into the lobby, dining room and hallways. Dark lobby, check-in area, dining room. It's centrally located in Midtown Atlanta...away from the panhandlers of Downtown, yet close enough to Midtown to qualify.

The rooms are a little tired, even though you could tell that they were beautifully decorated in the beginning. My room was pleasant size, but a little shabby. The towel quality was poor and thin, but that was made up for by a great collection of bath gel, shampoo, conditioner, etc.

Breakfast was included in my room rate, as in most European properties, and it was an ample buffet including juice and coffee.

I definintely would return. The staff was friendly, the feeling was European and I certainly will continue to use it.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with a view. There is a huge building that blocks views on the northsi...

“shows wear & tear”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My colleagues and I stayed during our market trip this year. The hotel is very worn (towel bars falling off the walls, door lockset hanging loose.) The street noise is very loud all night. The housekeeping staff did a marginal job - different number of towels each day, no coffee cups 2 days, vacuuming seems optional. No hair dryer. My allergies were extremely irritated by something in the rooms. The restaurant was understaffed by far although they said they were prepared for the number of market people in town. We were told 20 minutes for a wait and ended up waiting for a full hour longer than that to actually be seated.
On the positive side: the front lobby staff and bar staff were very pleasant and professional. The location is ideal for market with an easy two stop ride on the Marta. I wish the rooms were in better shape so we could try them again. The beds and pillows are very comfortable.

Room Tip: I would imagine higher rooms may have less street noise.
