My expectations of this class of hotels (Hilton Gardens, Hyatt Place) is fairly high as they all compete for the same business travelers. Since I have Marriot Rewards, in general I prefer to stay at Marriots. However, I feel that I made a mistake by staying here.
For starters, the hotel is located essentially off an exit rampt to I-85. Guess what that means? If your room is on the side facing the interstate (as mine was), it's going to be loud. There must be no sound insulation whatsoever within the walls.
Also loud was the AC/heater unit. When I turned it off to try to get a quieter night, the room quickly warmed up--so much so that I had to go turn it on again.
The hotel itself is nicely appointed. The lobby and the rooms have evidently been updated recently, and the HD tv had a great picture. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. Service was very good, which is why I gave the hotel an extra point on the overall scale. One downside: the hotel has recently begun charging for parking, which I think is ridiculous.
