We booked a Deluxe King Room for last Wednesday night. We arrived at 5:30 p.m. Upon checking in we told we were in a Double Queen room. I told hotel agent we had booked a Deluxe King Room through Booking.com. She told us they were out of king rooms and nothing else. We were put in room 1003. It evidently is 2 double/full beds, not Queen. We were uncomfortable in such a small bed since my boyfriend and I have a king bed and always book kings.
Today, I found the booking.com confirmation print out specifying a Deluxe King room and called the Ellis Hotel. I was put through to a man identified as the manager and he told me that the price for the room we stayed in was the same as the Deluxe King although I never mentioned or inquired about price. I told him I was dissatisfied with booking a Deluxe King and getting a double queen. He said they did not have queens. Great, it was even smaller than the check in agent stated! He said they didn't have any kings left due to people staying over and "what have" and that we were not guaranteed a Deluxe King or any King. I told him I would not stay there again then and he said ok.
I then called booking.com. Their agent called and spoke to the manager who said we were told about the double bed situation and told we could get out of our reservation if we were dissatisfied with that. We were never told that. We were given the double room as a matter if course while checking in and only when I spoke up about the king I was told they were out of them. Moreover, the booking.com agent said that the manager said we were offered and accepted an "upgrade" to a Deluxe Double Suite. No, we were not and it was not deluxe. In fact, the nightstand was all blistered from water, there was a small dorm fridge on the floor by the door. The two light fixtures over the beds were very dirty with smeared substances such that I did not want to touch the switches. If I had requested a double bed room, it would have been ok, but it was not comparable to a Deluxe King. The booking.com agent then tried to look up the double room and couldn't find one as The Ellis only offers Deluxe King Rooms as per the agent. So, I do not know if the $309 for the King they charged us was what they offer the double at. My experience at most hotels is that Deluxe King rooms cost more. For us, it wasn't over cost, we wanted and thought we would get the comfort of a King bed.
I have been told that a general manager will call me in a few days. I'm not impressed at all and won't go back. We had stayed there one other time and got the King we booked. We had no reason to believe we would have any problem this time. We did not get a good night sleep in the small bed. We will try a different hotel the next time we visit Atlanta.
As an aside, the room was very noisy. We heard lots of cars, horns, and sirens the next morning.
