“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

My husband and I have stayed in numerous B&B's through the states, and were excited to try Tea Cakes. We chose the B&B at the last minute based off the website. Our alternate plan was the St. Regis in Buckhead, and how I wish we had chosen that!!! We were less than impressed. For the money, you can get a much nicer, more quaint atmosphere somewhere else.

While we were there, they actually highlighted the neighborhood on the news for the number of robberies and assualts that had recently occurred. The news clip showed a house we identified as being a few doors down. Consequently, we didn't feel safe in the neighborhood.

While the bed was comfortable, the pillows were cheap foam. There was no soap in the shower. A jumbo bottle of shower gel was provided; however, it was almost empty and had been watered down. The porch was nice, but the bird dropping should be cleaned up.

Breakfast was yummy, but not outstanding as the pictures on the website appear. I was tickled by the table setting. I expect a B&B to be refined, but the breakfast table was set with a papertowel as a napkin and the silverware in the wrong place.

“My Only Place To Stay in ATL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

I usually stay in decent hotels whenever I travel nothing lower than 3 1/2 st ars at the least. My partner only likes to stay in B & B's because they are more personal and cleaner. I began my search for a B &B in Atlanta since we would be visiting the city for a few days, to my delight I saw pictures of Teacakes and fell in love. Unfortunately, when I was tried to make a reservation they were unavailable and that broke my heart. My partner had also fallen in love with the pictures and descriptions, so I e-mailed the establishment and to my joy they responded and opened the room for us. We stayed in the Diamond Hill suite and other than the bathroom being down the hall we loved it. The was plush and the room was just perfect. The hostess and her daughter (Kuprenda and Kenya) were very accomodating and had an adorable little dog named Savannah who was more than a delight to play with. This B &B is one of the twenty owned by black operators and that was amazing because there was so much rich history in this 3 bedroom 3 bathroom oasis. My partner and I enjoyed the cook Zelda...she made the most amazing sweet potato belgian waffles(i dont even like sweet potatoes) and baked apple pancakes...she really makes breakfast a luxury and the conversation was even more heartwarming on a full stomach. This is the only place I want to stay when I visit Atlanta and when we hopefully move in the near future it will be our little home away from home. We are hoping to stay in February for Valentine's Day. Please don't be like me and never experience a real B & B because once you come in you will never wanna leave. You'll especially love the dining room if you are a true Tiffany & Co. fan because the walls scream Tiffany...please look it up not just from my experience but have your own memory to share.

“Pretty Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2008

After a lot of research and because I liked the name (!) I booked Tea Cakes on the internet for our first ever B&B experience for the first 4 nights of our 15 day trip to Georgia at the end of May 2008.

It looked charming on the website and we weren’t disappointed. Friendly emails were sent before our arrival ensuring we knew how to get there.

It’s a beautiful, well furnished and spotless property located on a quiet, quaint street.

The owner, Karcheik is welcoming, genuinely friendly and knowledgable and you’re encouraged to feel at home. We did! She spent time printing maps, explaining the MARTA and recommended areas to eat which we wouldn’t have discovered on our own (even with the use of our Frommers Guide).

We’d collected a hire car at the airport, but we didn’t need it whilst at Tea Cakes , & left it parked on the drive. With the MARTA just 2 minutes away, we had a 4 day pass (various timescales available which you purchase from a machine down the escalator) and we waited no longer than 6 minutes for a train.

Breakfasts were great with fresh orange juice, tea/coffee and a different speciality breakfast each day. We were invited to help ourselves to drinks from the fridge.

We had the Diamond Hill Room with comfortable mattress, full pillows, bathrobes and plenty of towels and storage. There’s a TV in the bedroom, but you’re also welcome to use the one in the sitting room with access to the computer and internet. I misinterpreted private bathroom as en-suite, but it was just a few steps away and it really wasn’t an issue. Conditioning shampoo and shower gel are provided, with even more fluffy white towels.

We live in the English countryside and we enjoyed the downtown location.

The stay was more than we expected and is fully recommended.

“Gracious Owners, Some Problems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2008

I booked two nights at Tea Cakes B & B directly off the hotel website. I thought their room rate was reasonable and was attracted to close proximity to downtown activities. We arrived and met the owner, who graciously showed us up to our room, the DuBignon Suite, which is really not a suite in hotel parlance (which would suggest a separate room with a living area), so much as the master bedroom in a recently-built residential home. Still, the room was extremely clean and very attractively appointed. The bed was VERY comfortable. And the breakfast was tasty, always a plus. We had three main problems with Tea Cakes. First: the neighborhood. The street Tea Cakes is located on seemed fine and well-lit, but the neighborhood itself (Washington Heights/West End) is NOT a place where you can stop after dark to ask directions if you get lost. I obviously could have done more research on this one to figure this out ahead of time and don't fault the owners. Two: there is a problem with the air conditioning. It is either freezing or hot. Also, the rooms are not individually climate-controlled. You are at the mercy of whoever gets out of bed the most at night to adjust the thermostat, which creates a bit of a war between hot and cold-natured guests. Three: our room door did not have a second lock. I did not like that at all. The hosts were extremely kind and were excellent conversationalists. My husband and I enjoyed talking with them. All in all, I would recommend this establishment with reservations.

  • Liked — It was cleaner than most hotels.
  • Disliked — the neighborhood, climate control issues

“B&B Standard - bar raised to new level”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2008

Great hosts
Great accomodation
Great location
Why stay in a downtown "clone room" hotel when you can be away from the noise and dirt.
Seconds away from the MARTA which can get you to the Dome, Aquararium and Atlanta Central in minutes.
We cannot recommend this B&B highly enough for your trip to Atlanta!
