I won't lie, I booked the room off of six flags website and then after I already paid for a non-refundable, no cancellation, no changes reservation (to get a better rate), I researched and found these horrible reviews. It made me VERY nervous and I started dreading my impulse purchase without doing all my research first.
We had a FANTASTIC stay! And we were treated better than I could have ever hoped or imagined!
For starters, I called the hotel before we were due to arrive to check on the shuttle service and we also needed an extra ticket, so I wanted to be sure they were still offering discount tickets. I found out that I made an error in the reservation (the very reservation that I agreed to pay full price for no matter what). The manager was SOOO helpful. He switched my reservation (with NO fee or additional charges) AND upgraded us to a suite for the same price I would have had to pay for the room I reserved. The staff spent SEVERAL phone calls - very patiently answering all my questions and assisting me so that we could have the best family stay possible.
Things got worse. The family loaded up in the car to head for our vacation and got stranded on the side of the road with HORRIBLE car trouble. This trouble took ALL DAY and we ended up back home, devastated that we were not only NOT on vacation, but also that we had already paid for the room that we were not staying in. The policy is VERY clear, and I chose to agree with it - it was turning into the worst vacation ever!
I called the hotel and explained our situation. We had to borrow a vehicle the next day to be sure we could at least stay the one night (instead of the two we originally hoped) knowing that most likely we would either have to pay for a third night or drive the 8 hour trip back home after the full day at six flags. Which would mean we would have to check out before the park, and load all our stuff in the vehicle and forgo the shuttle service, pay to park - what a nightmare!
Everyone I talked to was understanding and it turned out better than we could have hoped! The managers just moved our reservation back one night. NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE! and this included that we would now be taking up one of their suites on a FRIDAY night - last minute, and all for the price I would have had to pay to just stay in a regular room with a cot.
Yes, the area surrounding the hotel is shady, however - every room is accessible from the inside - and you have to walk right by the front desk to get to ANY of the rooms. There were SEVERAL staff available all around the building to assure we were all safe and comfortable. At first I felt a little uneasy, but quickly was made to feel right at home AND SAFE. The parking area was well monitored and well lit up - and I made several trips to the vehicle after dark - ALONE - and never felt uneasy at all. There are several security cameras, and we did not even smell cigarette smoke or see ANY signs of ANY kind of partying. Be realistic - you are in Atlanta. We DID venture out for dinner but brought our manners with us, so we did not encounter even the tiniest bit of any kind of issue!
Our room was extremely clean! Yes, everything was unplugged but it took literally 2 minutes to plug things in - with easily accessible outlets and the fridge worked so well it was ice cold in there within 20 minutes. Air conditioning worked amazing, and was quiet - beds were so comfortable I could not get the teenagers to head to the pool with me!
The pool area had plenty of places for everyone and was extremely clean. The pool was very clean and I am very picky about what I will swim in. I jumped right in. It was refreshing and I enjoyed it VERY much! We even went for a swim after six flags on a FRIDAY night - the pool was FULL. It was FULL of FAMILIES and all the kids had joined together to play a game of marco-polo! It was WONDERFUL! (and this was at 10:30 at night - the pool is only accessible OUTSIDE - we all got along just FINE)
They DO have irons - just ask at the front desk. I think common sense states for fire hazard purposes (and perhaps theft issues) no one can leave one on in the room. And our iron was clean and looked fairly new.
It is CONTINENTAL breakfast - it looked like EVERY OTHER continental breakfast at every other Days Inn I have stayed in. BUT they added strawberry waffle mix along with the traditional and the cinnamon waffle mix. It was clean, and FRESH. On saturday morning, I sat down there with my coffee because everyone was asleep in the room and watched her clean and refill everything - I was so impressed by amount of food she refilled - it was a constant flow!
The only bug I ever saw was ONE MOSQUITO - and THAT was outside in the parking lot. The tub was clean, the toilet was clean - the sheets and comforters were clean - the floor was clean! I know because I wore socks to walk around in and the socks stayed white.
I only saw the staff get a little upset one time - and it was the GUEST who was being unreasonable and LOUD. I was impressed with how cool the staff handled the situation.
They went above and beyond, the lobby was clean - the pool towels were clean! the linens for the room smelled GREAT and fresh!
The shuttle service to and from six flags allowed us to REALLY enjoy family and avoid lines, walking, and traffic - we were in and out!
We had family decide to stay with us and as an added above what could EVER be expected, the hotel let him stay with us and buy a ticket and shuttle to the park - all for only the extra person fee (I think it was $8 or maybe $10 - I don't know because he paid it)
Overall - I would highly recommend and WE WILL BE BACK!
Thank you Days Inn for EVERYTHING! We had an amazing time and you took very good care of our family!
I could go on and on, but I think most have stopped reading already.
