I've stayed in this hotel about 6 times in the past year. My first experience was terrible, and I let everyone know. We arrived at 10pm and only one of our rooms was ready. We waited over 30 minutes for the other to be prepared. The valet lost our keys to the car...you get the point. We missed dinner reservations, and were late for everything.
I vowed to not stay here again. Our next trip sent us, for MY BIRTHDAY, out to the Sheraton Gateway by the airport. That's how anti-W I was after that trip. I am SPG Gold and travel too much...and ATL has too many other Starwood properties. I was asked to try it again. They got it right from then on out. The hotel is in a great location in Midtown for access to Buckhead or Downtown. If the weather is nice, a stroll over to Piedmont Park is great to read the paper.
As usual, the W chain is not for traditional families, nor is it for AARP card holders; they are present from time to time. Nothing like seeing their faces when DJ Tiesto is playing at 9am in the elevator/lobby. You can see 'it's near my conference' or 'ugggh, Priceline' written all over their faces.
The beds are comfortable (could use higher thread count sheets in my opinion), the rooms spacious (nice, considering it was a Sheraton pre facelift), the staff is generally 'fab' by their scale. The Bliss products are nice too. My only complaint with all hotels about 3 stars...STOP CHARGING FOR INTERNET! It is tacky.
We visit ATL frequently for weekend getaways, I will be sharing my thoughts on other Starwood properties too. Hope this helps, if only a little.
