Having your wedding registry at Simon Pearce entitles you to a free night at the Woodstock Inn & Resort and dinner at the Simon Pearce restaurant. The first night was on Sion Pearce and the second night was a reasonable $280. Halfway through our first year of marriage we took a weekend out of Boston and drove the short 2 hour trip up to Woodstock. Getting out of the city for a weekend is a religious experience in its own right...but walking into the lobby of the Woodstock Inn you are welcomed by a huge fireplace and instantly your shoulders drop and you let go of all of the stress from the city. The room was large, bright and clean, with a large 4 poster bead. The bathroom was clean and newly re-done in white marble.
Dinner the first night was at Osteria Pane e Salute, one of the best meals of our life, living within close proximity of the North End (and being married to an italian) makes me a somewhat of an authority on italian food and this wildly exceeded expectations. The owners/hosts/chefs Deirdre and Caleb are amazing and this tiny restaurant provides a much needed difference in dining experience. Encouraged to take our time and enjoy locally sourced food and home made wines, we couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Coming back to the Inn after a day spent skiing at Killington we enjoyed drinks in the Richardson's Tavern, a must do for anyone coming through woodstock, the old charm mixed with new creative cocktails and local beers is an absolute home run. The staff was warm and friendly, the bartender Michael making my wife a wonderful cinnamon martini made with house infused cinnamon liquors and I enjoyed a local beer on tap. Rachel, a waitress, entertained us with warm conversation and Phillip brought our drinks promptly with a smile.
The SPA at the Inn looked amazing but we didn't have the time to partake, although it looked so wonderful we will certainly make sure to plan another visit solely on its behalf. The Inn was quite busy with a large group from Boston but the staff and the physical building were well equipped to handle the group as well as us weary individual travelers.
In a world of excess luxury, resorts dripping with Mercedes signs, bath-tubs made of imported italian marble and $50 valet parking its refreshing to spend a weekend in a relaxed atmosphere evocative of the way New England grew up...raw, true to itself and working locally not as a fad but as a way of life. A short two hours form Boston this experience should not be missed.
