“age over beauty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

having stayed here several times before, the deterioration we found this time is really sad.Filthy hallway carpets with bleached out spots here and there, rooms not much cleaner(found a sock from previous occupant under the bed) and the exterior in dire need of power washing are some of the symptoms that made us find a better property after only two nights(we had planned on staying six) even though that involved driving some 40 miles daily.

Room Tip: another hotel until this one has undergone an extensive renovation and has a maintenance plan in pla...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. It is regrettable that your stay with us did not meet the expectations that you previously experienced. One of the major purposes of on-line reviews is to highlight areas for improvement and your feedback provides our hotel with valuable information that we can review to improve on for the future. We are in the process of replacing all guest corridor carpet as well as the carpet in our lobby area. I appreciate the comments that you have shared and hope you will give us another chance to provide you the service you expect from our hotel.

“Bugs - Don't leave your bags on the floor!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I have been exclusively staying at this hotel over the last year and now my home is infested by carpet beetles. The last two times that I have stayed in this hotel, I found their larvae crawling on the walls and floors. Their staff dismisses the claims until I bring the bugs to them and they have never followed up on their problem. The bugs are all in my carpets and closet where they eat wool and other natural fibers. Do not leave anything on the floor!!

Room Tip: The Hyatt Place and Holiday Inn are right there and are preferred alternatives with equivalent price...

“Dissapointed”

I've stayed here several times before and always been happy. But not this time. We arrived late in the evening, and I requested a room that didn't have an adjoining room (those doors always allow a lot of noise through). The front desk person could not come up with one, besides on the club floor which they wanted to charge extra for. The person at the front desk assured me that the hotel was quite empty for the next 3 days (our stay length) and that they would not sell the room next door so we wouldn't have problems. I should have realized that if the hotel was so empty, they should have been able to move me. But I had been driving all day and just wanted to get to sleep. So, of course, the next night we get people next door who are LOUD. Like man & woman in bed loud. At this point they offered to move us to club floor, but it was too late. Kids were asleep and I didn't want to wake them up to move.

Then amidst this, I finally fall asleep and then the room phone rings at 11:30pm. Hang up call. Front desk could not tell me who the call was from. Probably someone to complain about the noise coming from the room next door.

To save money, it looks like the hotel has depowered one of the 2 elevators. I say this because in 4 days (3 nights) we never got the left elevator, and it's floor display was always blank. There was no sign that it was down for maintenance. This created many situations of waiting long periods for the elevator.

THere used to be a hot tub in the pool area, but they added a wall and a locked door - I guess that was discontinued. The pool, in the winter, is FREEZING COLD. It connects to an outdoor pool and all that separate them is a thin strip of plexiglass. They really need to heat the indoor pool. December - It was in the 50's outside (not freezing by any standard) and several families with kids ended up at the pool area and nobody could swim for more than a few minutes. My kids were shivering, and they are used to swimming in cold northern lakes.

A tip to some of the other travelers, skip the hotel restaurant and go to the Applebees right in the parking lot (set of stairs to the forward left when you exit the lobby). Decent food, good prices.

On the plus side, the ponds in the back are really nice to walk around.

Room Tip: ask for the pond side, nice views of the water.

“Not up to Sheraton standards at all”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Passing through Virginia for a night heading south, so the location is decent and easy to get to off the highway. I think Sheraton corporate needs to step into this hotel to ensure their usual high standards are being observed. That evening the entire computer system went down so luckily we checked in prior to that event. There was only one person at the desk and 8 people in line for checking in.The room unfortunately had a constant distinct odour of having been smoked in, even though it was supposed to be a non smoking room, The curtain sheers were grey ( I suspect from smokers at a previous time). The hotel carpets in the hallway were in absolutely disgraceful condition. The lobby though has been re-done and is quite lovely (should have slept in the lobby) , the grounds look beautiful. If you are a fan of those wonderful sweet sleeper beds, we certainly didn't get one. After a long day on the road, we thought we would just dine downstairs, waited fifteen minutes at the desk (one other couple in the dining room) until my husband went in search of a staff person in the kitchen. Was told the ONLY server was also delivering room service. Well, who wants to order food in a dining room, and know that while your food sits in the kitchen getting cold, the server is upstairs delivering room service orders...so we went out to find a restaurant. The young man driving the shuttle was fantastic though, very personable and helpful, and although it was nice they offered the shuttle for getting back and forth to a local restaurant, we really just wanted to dine in after a 13 hour drive.
We went upstairs to see the Club lounge (we booked to stay on that floor on the return trip)...found a considerable amount of mould on the ceiling near the ice maker on that floor and a door inside the lounge where the food is kept to be absolutely filthy.
All in all we cancelled our return reservation and are trying the Richmond Westin for our return. Sigh.
I suppose it's good value rate wise for what you get BUT certainly if you are used to the a certain consistent high standard Sheraton hotels usually offer, it's not here.

As the General Manage of Sheraton Park South Hotel I want to personally thank you for posting your concerns about your recent stay at our hotel.
Please allow me to apologize for any inconveniece you experienced during your visit. We rely on an outside service for our internet connection and regret that you were unable to utilize this complimentary service. Due to the popularity and high occupancy we experience, our hotel has started to show some "wear and tear" and I want you to know that we are taking steps in the new year to rectify our image with a new, fresher look that has already started with our state of the art Fitness Center. New carpet will be installed soon and I am confident that if your travels bring you back to our area you will enjoy the improvements.
We hope we will have the opportunity to host another stay for you so you can experience the level of product and service you have come to expect from the Sheraton Brand.
