I needed to stay one night in the Richmond area for a business meeting I had early the next day. I checked in about 6pm, the valet and front desk staff very efficient and accommodating. I was upgraded to a suite because I had booked thru Am Ex FHR. Everything was very clean, the bathroom very nice, but I found the hotel to be old fashioned. Not dated per se, and everything was in good shape, but it felt stuffy to me.
I generally try and choose hotels that are high end, and actually enjoy the more traditional ones than trendy types. I will chose a Ritz Carlton, 4 Seasons when possible.
There was a bedspread pulled over the whole bed and that added to the old fashioned look. Personally I think all hotels should lose those bedspreads, I assume they don’t get washed for every new stay and that’s just not a pleasant thought.
The positioning of the furniture was a bit odd too – a tv in the middle of the room facing one arm chair with no side table, to watch it in bed you had to physically turn the whole tv – it felt like they needed to get someone in there to arrange the furniture better.
I had room service, as a solo female traveler, I appreciated that the meal was delivered by a woman. The room service menu is quite limited, and I thought the food was average and a bit disappointing.
The room was very quiet which was good, but it was dark. I couldn’t open the windows for a bit of fresh air, and the lighting was so dim it would be impossible to put on any makeup in the bathroom. I did look good however ☺ , at least 5 years younger. But seriously, they need to be some additional lighting in the bathroom. Nice Molton Brown amenities, and lovely large marble shower stall. All in all I had a good nights sleep, but I will most likely look for another hotel next time I am in the area. To sum it up, everyone I encountered exuded excellent service and took pride in the hotel, but it just wasn’t for me.
