“Wonderful place run by lovely couple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

Sataru is a wonderful place hidden in a valley. Once you entered the gate it feels being far away from everything, but it's only a couple of minutes from the main road to Castellammare and Scopello. Run by a lovely couple who help you out with anything. Antony is a great cook, he prepares dinner on request with local products only. The rooms are set in the back of the property, in a separate building around a patio with olive trees. They're spacious though a bit dark, decorated in the local farm style. Nice bath room with good shower. Good value for money and also centrally located for sight seeing, beaches and hiking. I know Sicily quite well and in my opinion the north west is the nicest - yet less visited - area of the island.

“nice and quiet in the countryside”

Stayed there for one night in July 2011 while auto-touring Sicily. Well situated to get to the different areas in North-West Sicily. Nice, clean and quiet place. It is a resort in the sense that there are rooms in small buildings around a big courtyard/garden with small pools (empty when we were there), however it is only a 10 rooms "resort" so it is more akin to a big B&B / small hotel with character. Would definitely stay there again if in the area

“Wonderful, relaxing, and fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

Lovely family run hotel. I am very surprised that it is not #1 on the list of Castellammare del Golfo hotels! Alessandra and Antony are warm hosts, very helpful with any questions you have about the surrounding area and Sicily in general. The dinner they offer their guests in their restaurant is delicious - traditional Sicilian dishes.Sataru has Wireless internet, a great breakfast, and free parking.The first two days we stayed in a room - very nice, beautiful bathroom, small fridge. The hotel grounds are so peaceful, beautiuflly maintained by them with many beautiful personal touches. It was so peaceful there, and such a good location, (close to the amazing Zingaro park, Scopello, Erice, San Vito Lo Capo, Trapani, Castellammare of course, and 1 hour from Palermo and Marsala), that we decided to stay for three weeks in the small apartment they rent out, which, luckily, was not booked at that time. It was a wonderful time, cooking meals in our kitchenette with fresh produce, and being so close to go have a dip in the sea at the Scopello beach after! We would not consider staying anywhere else when we come back to Sicily!

“Excellent value!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

Lovely place to stay especially if you are looking for peace and quiet but you have to have a car to stay here. With the help of our gps it was not difficult at all to find the place. First thought was that it really was located way out at the remote countryside and entering the reception the first thing I layed eyes on was the sign saying "In the middle of nowhere". But it showed out that it actually is located very well, situated between Castellammare del Golfo and Scopello and Zingaro national park. It is also quite close to Alcamo and Segesta as well as to Erice for daytrip (we didn't go there this time). We got a very good deal for staying 2 nights and ended up staying one extra night. Rooms (one double bed and 2 single beds) are a bit dark and could do with a little painting but clean and the bathroom was the nicest we had in Sicily, nicely decorated and spacious. The shower is larger than the standard minimal size we found elsewhere. Beds were hard as everywhere in Sicily but we slept better than at other places so I think the mattresses were quite good after all. Lovely couple who runs the place and they speak excellent english. Nice breakfast, if including cheese it would be perfect! Lovely garden. In october the place was a bit quiet and generally this is not the place for single travellers to get in touch with other travellers I believe. We enjoyed our stay and would absolutely go back there next time!

“In the middle of nowhere but in the centre of region”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

Pros:
+ Beautiful garden and restaurant;
+ Rooms design reflect traditional Sicilian style, yet are comfortable enough (air-con, very nice bathroom), don't expect it to be luxorious though
+ Owners (staff) speaking in English, French and German (and Italian obviously), very helpful (we were given few very valuable tips on our itinerary);
+ Good location in a quiet environement, but in the same time - excellent base for visiting many interesting places and nearby beaches;
+ Good value for money

Issues:
- Internet only in reception area (which is compliant with description, so we did not expect anything else) with only one socket available;
- Be aware that car is absolutely necessary; These are not a major issues though.
