“A gated complex, with 5 star prices and 2 star food”

I thought I was in the US when we arrived here. Tight security on the gate, little electric golf type buggies trundling about and good looking porters in identical polo shirts.

The setting really is fabulous, with all round views of the sea, and coastline. Hence the 2 stars rating.

The beaches? With one exception (where the little bar is), they were covered in debris and uninviting.

Strange golf course. Internet Wifi access only by the pool!

Food was all buffet style - ok it was ok. But mass-produced buffets can never be interesting, can they? Drinks were five star prives.

Does the wind ever stop blowing here? Apart from in the room we never had any relief from it! And the room? Nice enough but 5 star?? We were directly behind the bar and restaurant, so we had half a view of the sea and plenty of noise.

There are plenty of lovely places to stay in Sardinia - see some of my other reviews, but if you want to just sit by a windy pool, and eat unineteresting food, and not really see any of the rest of Sardinia because this is frankly so far away, then come here.

“Not worth the money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2010

We were looking to do a holiday on Sardinia for years now, but were repeatedly put off by the high cost and worry about lacking Italian hotel standards- To cut a long story short, we had a good and relaxing vacation at the hotel, the small beach is tidy and also good for children. Especially the chap running the beach bar and snack place is a real highlight and extremely friendly. Now come the downsides: First, for a rounded Euro 5000 (including all extras, so basically small snacks during the day, cheaper wine in the evening, but excluding flights) during June, we really feel this was far from any value for money. The hotel is Italian 5-star, so max 4 star in reality. This applies to the rooms as well as to the overall facilites. The food would be ín the same category, quite good, but not worthy of 5 stars (or the price). The location of the hotel is not 5-star either (really in the middle of nowhere, which means you need to consume 4-star service at 5-star prices). During breakfast, there was a "charlie chaplin" style piano player who couldn't play - well he was more practicing than playing, which is amusing for the first 1-2 days, but gets a bit tiring thereafter. For 3000 Euros for a week (excluding flights) we'd be recommending this place as a family and couples friendly hotel, but ...sorry.... not worth the price, which is probably even higher in high season. You might ask why we landed here in the first place...here I refer to our evaluation of the hotel Cala di Lepre which to the same group (which was a complete desaster).

“Top class Sardinia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2009

We stayed with our 3.5 yr old for 1 x week in a junior suite. The whole week was 1st class - great room with a view to die for. Sheets & towels changed daily. Staff attentive and any request was actioned immediately. The food was fantastic - a buffet style dinner or you can have table service in the a la carte restaurant. Drinks in a 5* hotel will always be expensive so we stocked up with some beer wine and water in the local supermarket before we arrived. I would recommend this place to couples and young families. There is a great kids club, beaches and pools.

“Not 5 star - Not Luxury - Good Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2009

After spending 2.5 weeks traveling around Italy, my husband and I chose Sardinia as a place to wrap up our trip while relaxing in an island setting. I did a lot of reading ahead of time and came up with Valle dell'Erica as a resort that would not be as hectic and crowded as those closer to Esmerelda, but one that would offer quiet beauty and "luxury". Despite the fact that there were many children vacationing, the resort is so spread out that you rarely felt intruded upon by them. The resort has many beaches and those closest to the main reception building had most of the families on it, so we walked along until we found the quiet cove pictured above and pretty much hung out there where there were a few other couples who seemed to have wanted the same peace and quiet.
The accommodations were simple and not of 5 star rating. Our room was basic and felt somewhat unclean. We stayed in a double and it was the worst room of entire trip. Greater attention to the bedding, a decent mattress and comforter, higher quality sheets and towels, would have made a huge difference. In addition, the bathrooms in the hotels common areas were more recently upgraded and nicer than the one in our room.
The restaurant was okay, but only okay. After having experienced the culinary pleasures of the different regions of Italy, we often had a difficult time finding a good meal at this hotel. Imprisoned by the half board, we ended up eating all of our meals at the hotel and decided our favorite was the salami and provolone paninis that we had a lunch :-/ Though the chef worked very hard at creating beautiful displays at the buffet and lovely plates at the table service dining, the food was just not good. The only surprises we had was that the meals were actually as bad as they were.
Putting all criticism aside, the people who worked at the hotel and the management really took great care in their work. They truly wanted you to be happy at all times and if they thought that you were not they tried to make things right.
I would like to recommend this hotel but I would not recommend eating there on half board. Rent a car and eat your meals in the surrounding towns (10 minute ride). If you take a double room, do not take one in the 200 numbers, be sure that yours is at a higher property level and that it includes hammock and lounges on the veranda.

“BEST FOR KIDS CLUB AND PARENTS SPA , LOVELY HOTEL,”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2009

We stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago. Staff exceptionally helpful and friendly at all times, Everywhere so clean and tidy. Quality is more a 4 star I would say from my experience. Pools fantastic. Our children aged 8 and 5 said it was the best kids club they have ever experienced. We agree and were very impressed . The staff were genuinly interested and liked the children and everytime we popped in they were all doing some sort of activity toegther. We felt very comfortbale leaving them there and indeed our kids kept asking to go.
We stayed in a Mirtilla Junior suite for 4 people. It was very nice except there was no privacy , our double faced the childrens and a curtain or something to separate at night time, would have been nice . For example if we wanted to watch TV when they were asleep, the light disturbed them.
The food was of a good standard and selection and any special food requests I had were attended to without fuss. Thalsaotherapy spa excellent experience also. Outside of the resort we found their was little to do, this was the disapointing part, no nice markets and shops. That said Olbia about 50 mins drive has shopping centres. The beaches and sea are stunning and plentiful , but rather stoney and pebbly and we ended up all buying pool shoes after the children cut their feet several times.
What I liked least was the piano player at breakfast, too noisy when you have just woken up and want some peace. Also internet connection is only at the main reception area and not in your room.
Very peaceful and pretty resort and not at all crowded desptie being told they were busy.
Recommended for families with babies and youger children upto age 10 I would say. Did not see many teenagers at the resort.
