“3star accom, 4star resort, 5star prices”

Second visit - largely to satisfy my footy mad boy. 4hrs of organised football each day though the coaching can be variable they do pretty good with mixed ability, ages and nationalities. However, it wouldn't have happened without Abramovich having the idea in the first instance. Which sumd up the resort. So much more could be done but isn't.

Both years we've come back 3 out of 4 of us needing treatment for ear infections. No doubting that the pool water must be the cause as we don't go anywhere else. Never saw anyone checking the water the whole 4 weeks we've been there. Get sore ears then cough for the on-site doc and cortisone drops because they're only going to get worse.

This year 3 calls and 2 visits needed to get a shower curtain - essential because there is not enough hot water for a bath - even the shower you'll get 3 in a row done but not 4. Eventually had to pull the manager out the back room and it was fixed in 5 minutes along with posh dinner, free spa passes and champagne and fruit in the room but the damage was done. Two days in a row the air con packed in. There isn't a toilet in the resort with the flush not flapping about. So that's the other thing - its tired and needing investment. All the attention goes on the public areas. Another encounter was the purchase of a 1hr E10 internet access. Scratched off the code and couldn't get access, trudged back to reception - oh yes ther's a problem - been like it all day - then why sell me the damn thing without saying - aaarrgh!

To cap it all, this year they had 2 new comperes at the piazza show every night - dreadful. The house band are great but they just wanted to play and the audience just wanted to enjoy. Worst was the same script every night like clockwork 10:30 "If you don't dance the band will play only sad songs" followed by 'I will survive' and a disco set that failed to get the place going because they'd heard the same damn thing every night same time - bizarre.

On the plus side the resort is very safe, secluded, reasonable things to do, not too busy June / early July and the food is fine so long as you don't expect real cuisine. Both years they open and close restaurants without telling you which is the one you are supposed to be at but you get there in the end.

“beautiful grounds, great swimming, but expensive extras”

Arrived to a very warm welcome at reception, with drinks and a ride to our room. somehow one of our bags got left in reception by the porters so we had to go back for it. The room was well set out with a separate sleeping area for our 2 boys but a little small. The bathroom had a shower without a curtain 2 foot from the door to our bed room which meant the floor got very wet and slippery. On arrival the room was clean but over the 2 weeks dust did build up in places. New sheets were provided daily but the cleaners didn't take care of our property and over the 2 weeks the boys lost 6 furry toys including the very favourite gerbil. Another family lost their pyjamas. Although the receptionists said they did all they could to find the missing items nothing of ours reappeared although we were given someone else's mouse as we left on the last day.

The grounds and swimming pools were excellent, large warm and deep enough for a proper swim. There was usually good sun loungers available and plenty of shady options. The boys loved the diving boards. The beach itself is a narrow strip of good quality sand and quite stony once in the water . It was always very crowded .

The buffet had a good range of sea food and pasta, although it became a repetitive there was always something to eat. If you arrived early enough there was often one tray of sushi which my son loved. We did wonder if it was left over from the japanese restaurant. We were told on arrival that we were entitled to free drinks with the meal. however this was one bottle of water between 2 and half a bottle of house wine per adult. All other drinks would be accompanied by a large bill eg 2 glasses of sprite for 9 euros. There was nothing to warn us before telling the boys they could have it. However go to the main gates and turn left; there is a supermarket 500m away where you can get 1.5l of sprite for 3 euros and lots of wonderful bread. Lunch time in the hotel was also very over priced 13 euros for a pizza etc. The breakfast buffet was great other than instant coffee unless you asked specifically for an expresso.

The kids club worked well and the boys loved go carting, and that was reasonably priced

Like a lot of places in the Med now, it was heavily Russian - the first week, we reckoned that the majority of guests were Russian, though the percentage in the second week was lower.

“Great weather, poor resort”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2008

We stayed at the Hotel Il Villaggio within Forte Village. We had booked a one week stay (2 adults, 1 child aged 3). The initial reception upon arrival was chaotic and communication was extremely poor. We found ourselves wandering aimlessly around the resort trying to find a restaurant that was open and that we could eat in. Just to make it clear, although there are a number of restaurants within the resort, these are not all open at the same time (the staff switch from restaurant to restaurant) and infact some are only open for an hour! It is incredibly difficult to just eat when you are hungy, there is no facility for that at all, you really have to fit into the schedule of eating (breakfast and dinner) - for lunch if you decide you are hungry after 2:30pm, you have had it and have to wait until 7:30pm when dinner opens - not a joke with a child!

The room we had was pleasant enough but as many people have already stated, it was not 5 star, not in your wildest dreams. Our air conditioning did not work and our shower was very poor, we didn't even use it and favoured using the bath instead. We did get an portable air con unit delivered and when trying to establish where to put the hose which leads to outside the "handymen" they sent round simply sawed a big chunk of the window frame out! No idea how this will look once they remove the air con unit for the next set of visitors!?

The mini-club (kids club) was not bad, although we did not leave our son in it, we stayed and let him play under our supervision. It should be noted that, again, the mini club staff were serving up the buffet dinner in the evening so you have to wonder what their child care qualifications are if any.

In general the pools and beaches were lovely and clean, our son really enjoyed the swimming. But to be honest you could have had that anywhere without paying the large price tag.

Overall though it is a lovely resort although greatly over priced for quality and service received. However, can't say we would rush back!

  • Liked — It was clean.
  • Disliked — Air con was very poor.

“Our trip to Forte Village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2008

Having just returned from a two week holiday at Forte Village, I was informed about this website from a friend who is going in August and was concerned after reading essentially poor reviews. I therefore, feel compelled to offer our opinions on the resort and perhaps restore the balance.
This was our second visit to the resort and having had a throughly enjoyable holiday there a couple of years ago decided to return. We are a married couple with three children under six.
On arrival at Cagliari Airport we were immediately met by a Citalia rep and introduced to our transfer driver. On arrival at the resort, we were greeted at the reception and assisted out of the car. The Citalia rep and the guest relations staff were waiting for us with our info packs etc. We were assisted to our room, which was quite basic and required a little updating but which was very clean. The shower wasn't working very well and despite reporting it, it didn't improve. We were staying in an Il Villagio bungalow and despite having an infant in a pushchair we were given a bungalow with steps. These were, however, minor inconveniences. The location is lovely we didn't need to leave the resort except for the trips my husband made to the local supermarket to buy drinks and snacks as the cost of drinks is not cheap (£3 for a can of coke) however, we have travelled to many hotels all over the world and you always pay a premium for drinks so this came as no surprise. The beach was lovely and not at all crowded, it was also very clean. The grounds too were expceptionally clean and the plants and trees very well cared for, although we did see black rubbish bags waiting for collection near the housekeeping offices. The food is outstanding! We ate at the Calvaleri buffet most evenings and this was delightful, lots of good food, lots of choice and a beautiful setting. We also tried the Brasilian and the Beachcomber and found both of these also very enjoyable. The Beachcomber looks out onto the beach and is extremely romantic. We hired a lovely babysitter twice with ease and also at short notice. The childrens restaurant is fantastic with lots of good food and lots of choice, also excellent service. The resort has several swimming pools and a spa/beauty salon plus lots of shops. The childrens mini club is great, our children throughly enjoyed it. Although, it too could be better if a little investment was made (some of the equipment was dated/well used, the playground was looking a shabby/dated and the daily program could be improved quite easily) but it has two nice pools and we spent a lot of time here as did other families. The entertainment in the Piazza was good, if not a little repetitive (the same songs were sung on the same day each week, perhaps they could try alternating?). We hired bikes and were given two days rental for the price of one. We experienced about four business functions during the two weeks and this did grate on us a little (partly because my husband had come on holiday to escape that and also because it encroached onto the family/ holiday ambience) one of the conferences used the microphones at the piazza and could be heard all over the resort, which wasn't entirely relaxing. However, the facilities were very good both at leisure land and within the resort, although the opening times were a bit strange. Finally, the staff were exceptional (a couple of language barriers but this is to be expected) overall most staff were really lovely, helpful and went out of their way to make this a really enjoyable holiday and we would most definately return!!

  • Liked — The quality of staff service
  • Disliked — A bit dated more investment needed

“A holiday to suit all ages”

We have just returned from this wonderful location. We being myself 62yrs my wife 61yrs my son 34yrs his wife 37yrs & their daughter 19 months. I had doubts about a beach holiday with a child so young. The bungalows were kept in fantastic condition, bed linen changed daily, bathroom towels changed morning & evenings, free beach towels daily in rooms but also available at the swimming pools & on the beach. The choice of restaurants was amazing as was the food & its quality. Day time & evening entertainment for all ages. Staff throughout the complex were very polite & helpful. To be on a large complex with no motor vehicles was very safe for all age groups. Electric vehicles are used to transport holidaymakers around the complex . The beach was cleaned every morning at 7:0am, ample sun loungers & parasols free all day evey day. "A holiday to remember" we all agree we will return to this holiday centre.
