This hotel was the third one during our auto trip around Sardinia. We booked Urano cottage - a Junior Suite accomodation according to the hotel classification.
Location:
Santa Margherita di Pula may be not the nicest place in the South, it's better to stay somewhere near Chia with it's beaches. If you rent a car, than it is no problem to go to Chia (about 10 km) and other area atttractions. Otherwise you will be limited by the hotel territory.
Territory:
Green and well kept, but not much space, if you like long walks.
Beach:
There are actually several small beaches with nice almost white sand. But the entrance to the sea is not save (and pleasant) because of underwater stones. Swimming on windy days when the sea is rough (which happens very often and which, as we understood, is common for this island) can be reallly dangerous.
Hotel:
The main hotel building looks dull and dated, though we've never visited the rooms.
URANO cottage is actually 2 separate rooms, each for accomodation of two guests. Can be disturbing, if you're spending your time on the terrace and your neighbours are doing the same thing - no wall between two terrases, just a transparent fence in plants. Though the cottage location is nice - just above the beach - in all other aspects it does not correspond to the standards of a Junior Suite. It is a small dark room with EXTREMELY small bathroom suitable only for one person (the second can only stand at the door watching the first) with a tiny shower, which can hardly fit a person of a medium size. There is even no place for bathrobes. Be carefull taking a shower - water comes from the boiler, and hot water is REALLY hot, so it can burn the skin quite unexpectedly.
Plastic glasses (instead of glassy) in the cottage is really outrageous for EUR 600 per night.
Restaurant:
All in all - dull impression: old and sometimes broken tables they try to hide by covering them with long white table clothes; old and even dirty plates. Paper, not usual tissue napkins, poor table appointments, dirty and plane uniform of staff at the breakfast and their low professional level.
The biggest disappointment is the breakfast which does not correspond to the standart of 4-starts hotels we've ever seen. For example, you will be amazed to find on your table the price list for some extras (called "Special Breakfast menu"), where the hotel includes: espresso, cappuchino, pineapple, melon, fresh orange juice, omlette and some other things (see photos). The selection of other items at the breakfast buffet was very poor. For example, there were no musli, or dried fruits and the plate of cheese was in the list of extras. Selection of fresh fruits was also quite limited.
We've never visited a dinner in the restaurant, we had it on our cottage terrase. After the dinner, nobody even tried to collect dirty dishes until next morning, when usual housekeeping arrived.
All in all we would say that we had five-star views, but, regretably, three star accomodation - for the price that we paid for a real junior suite with fantastic views in the North of the island.
