We arrived on Sunday for a two-night stay, and were greeted by a wedding when we arrived. Fortunately, the public spaces and the rooms in this hotel are generously separated, so with the exception of having to wade through the crowd to enter the hotel, we really didn't notice the extra commotion.
This hotel is really not for anyone who has mobility issues. It's somewhat sprawling and there are stairs and landings to navigate. The layout really adds to the charm for me. It's like being in a maze created by Gaudi with all manner of nooks and crannies to explore as well as a selection of boutiques and bars. I loved it, but others may not appreciate challenge.
The parking lot is at the bottom of the hill, not exceptionally far, but it could be a problem for some. Although on normal days you can pull up closer to the entrance for unloading, we decided against it because of the wedding crowd. We didn't notice any bellmen to assist with baggage, but we weren't looking for any either.
Reception was friendly, and courteous. As is typical in Sardinia, passports were all the rage, but at least they were returned after recording the required information. After seeing how frazzled we obviously were after a long day on the road, the receptionist took pity upon is and upgraded us to junior suite!
The rooms are all "chambres du charm." Ours was very well laid out, spacious, and had a nice patio with chairs and a table for enjoying the evening breeze. It's definitely not one of those slick, pre-packaged, cookie cutter hotels. All the rooms and furnishings appeared unique with respect to layout and furnishings. Very homey, and lots of, as they say, character, but all very clean and comfortable. It was a very pleasant change of pace from your typical tourist hotel. (Woke in the morning to the bells of a herd of sheep (goats?) passing over the hill. Simply enchanting)
After settling into the room, we decided to wander out into the main lounge area since the wedding crowd was starting to disperse. They have a beautiful seating area under the trees at the entrance with a convenient bar. A perfectly lovely place to relax and unwind after a long day touring the countryside. The drink selection was good for a "country inn" and reasonably priced.
Dinner was spectacular and you really must eat at least one dinner at the hotel (athough I'm not sure where else you'd go!) Service can be a bit spotty at times due the large number of people eating there, but everything is first class, and they are definitely not fork-poor. Quite a refreshing experience. We ate in the restaurant, both nights of our stay and were not disappointed.
The first night our group had a fixed meal and the food just kept on coming. (Too much really. I basically shut down after the pasta course.) Multiple courses, mostly what I'd label country-style/traditional fare - they offer all the organs, not just the meat. Simply delicious and what an adventure. Definitely the first time I've tried brains! As you might imagine, everything except the pasta course and the dessert course are heavy on the meat so it may not be an ideal venue for the vegan crowd.
The second night's meal was equally delicious, although we ordered al-la-carte, and opted for only a main course and dessert. Both were delicious and generously portioned so we didn't leave hungry.
The fireplace in the main dining room is not to be missed. All the meats are expertly cooked here on long skewers leaned in front of the open fire and carved as necessary. Not some fake propane-fueled fire mind you, one made the old fashioned way with real logs and tended by an actual human.
Activities are limited to what is available in/from the hotel and enjoying the surrounding countryside. The main external activity seems to be hiking as evidenced by the large numbers of people with backpacks wandering out of the hotel in the mornings. You could also just sit by the pool and relax and enjoy this as the country resort that it is. If you're looking to wander into town for shopping, however, this probably isn't the right hotel for you. Although I was busy touring the countryside, some of our compatriots did make the trek to the source a short hike from the hotel and reported is was a pleasant walk and well worth the effort to check out.
Overall, the atmosphere is fantastic, the scenery is gorgeous, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. No complaints. I would definitely stay here again.
