Castello di Tavolara is extremely clean, affordable and the hotel staff is very friendly. Breakfast was complementary and fresh, but the selection small. The town of Porto San Paolo is small with a fair amount of activities. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance. However, everything pretty much shuts down before midnight. Not the ideal location for those seeking a lot of adventure and nightlife.

Also, for those who are planning a trip to Sardinia...it is virtually impossible to plan out all activities on the internet. There is not really one comprehensive website where one can plan/book a trip to a local winery, or plan/book a zodiac rental up the Costa Smeralda or a boat trip from Palau to the La Maddelena archipelago. The hotel staff at Castello di Tavolara was somewhat helpful in assisting, but they had a limited selection of brochures and most were in Italian. I would say that one thing they could improve upon would be to get loads and loads of brochures from various tourism companies in a variety of languages to make up for the fact that Porto San Paolo doesn't have as much to offer as some of the Northeastern port towns.

Overall, I can't extol the hotel enough for value for money and immaculate cleanliness and would recommend it for couples/group travellers. Probably not for families, as there aren't any kid friendly facilities.

loved this hotel. small rooms, but very comfortable and clean, good furniture, comfy bed. In a quiet location in Porto San Paolo, great for getting away from any hustle and bustle. lovely breakfast, efficiently provided by the staff who did everything they could to help, but never intruded. I'd go back again.

We had a good stay in hotel Tavolara. The staff are very nice and always greet with a smile. The rooms are well-maintained and clean. We stayed there and hired a car to tour the north-east of the island.

We liked our stay at Castello di Tavolara as it was located a stone's throw from the beach, peaceful ambience and great cafe at the bottom of the hotel. The staff were personable and accommodating and very hospitable. We loved the breakfast staff and knew our drink order after a day. A good selection of breakfast options and fresh pastries, cakes, yogurts, and fruits. A few km south of Olbia, away from the crazy hustle of the city but close enough to jump on the highway to pop over to any of the other beautiful port cities spread along the coast of Sardinia.
