“Decent Hotel, Not Exceptional, But Not Bad Either.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Spent one night here, arrived late and left early. Didn't get to check out the facilities or surrounding area other than breakfast in the hotel. Breakfast was a buffet and adequate, though not what I'd call memorable. Big complaint here is that all of the juices came out of containers and were way too sweet for my taste. At 4 stars, I expect at least fresh OJ.

Rooms were generous and well appointed with a well-sized bath also. AC is typically euro-weak and had to keep the windows closed due to the wedding that was being held that night. Our room unfortunately looked out over the pool area where much of the reception occurred so we had a lot of noise until the wee hours of the AM and no relief to be had from the cool air outside. Have to give sleep quality low marks for the noise only. The bed itself was really quite comfortable.

Beware the rooms on the second floor. After the wedding noise, you would at least think you could sleep in in the AM to make up for it. Nope! The breakfast room is on the third floor and was right above our room on the second. Lot's of noise from people sliding chairs around. Although, I must admit I did enjoy the view from the breakfast room. Beautiful vista over the sea.

Parking lot is in the back. The only problem here was there was no obvious entrance from the lot to the hotel except through the main floor dining room and we had to search around for an unlocked door a couple of times. There must be an easier way, but we somehow missed it.

They held our passports at check in - a practice I find distasteful at best - like we were going to run out without paying the bill. And you won't get it back out without returning the keycard either. Not that I want it, but its just a cheap shot for a hotel that calls itself 4 star.

Overall, I'd give it a 4 for the atmosphere, it is a beautiful hotel with great rooms and scenic views, but 3 for reception just because I didn't really feel welcome. The whole passport thing makes me feel like they think I'm a criminal. So a solid 3+. Nothing wrong with it really, nothing exceptional about it either.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the second floor and avoid pool views on weekends when you're likely to be distur...

“Would never recommend to anyone”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone especially considering its a 4 star hotel. The cleaning staff and some waitressing staff are very friendly however the management staff and some of the waiters are rude. The rooms are very basic and do not come equipped for families. The restaurant is basic too but preferred to go elsewhere for food. (not enough variety). They have too many strict regulations... regarding wearing shoes at all times (which the manager told me off for not wearing one day - very unprofessional of him) and specific hours for swimming in the pool - we are meant to be on holiday not at a boot camp! Also they do not give out enough information for tourists regarding transportation and basic information on things to do in the area etc...

“Nice hotel, the location could be better...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

Sardinia is a lovely place, but Arbatax isn't. It's a port town, and the neighboring towns are more appropriate for tourism. However, the hotel itself is lovely...

I found the staff to be very helpful, and more than willing to help with everything from lending me a beach towel to arranging a boat tour of the coast. Breakfast at the hotel was good and consisted of a buffet of sweets (cookies, cakes, croissants) as well as savory items like ham or cheese, and juices and coffee. My room was a nice size and comfortable, and the general decor of the hotel reminded me of a lot of Spanish architecture I've seen on coastal towns. It was charming,

“Lovely hotel, shame about the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2008

The arbatasar is a beautiful hotel. the rooms are well decorated and very clean, we had a junior suite which meant we had a jacuzzi bathtub which was great, however it may have been a while since it was used as the water in the bathroom was orange! We sooned learned that this was not the only place with orange water which probably meant there was a lot of copper in the pipes.

the hotel staff were very friendly and they spoke good english. the restaurant was lovely and the food was beautifully cooked. the waiters took their jobs very seriously but always had time for a chat.

the only downside was the location. you do need a car to get around (probably anywhere in Sardinia) however there just wasnt much about in the local area.

the beach was a short drive away and there were other beaches that you could visit. its just seemed that there wasnt much else to Arbatax in general.

I would recommend a visit to Telis, this restaurant is a minute or two in the car from the hotel, its at a campsite and does the best Pizza ever!

However that said if you want a place thats out of the way and has a nice pool and great service then perhaps this is the hotel for you.

“mixed feelings but worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2008

We stayed 3 nights. When we drove down into town form the mountains, we thought this would be the most beautiful situated hotel ever. The surroundings (sea, mountains) were, but Arbatax wasn't. The town is uggly. But inside the hotel you hardly see this. They have a small garden with a small pool, but nice. The hotel itself is lovely, inside and outside. The rooms were spacious and very clean (and I'm very picky). The staff was friendly and spoke English (!). The food was really good. The mixed feelings came because of the location, but also becouse a lot of groups of motordrivers visited the hotel. Some of them were loud by the pool, they just are not my kind of people. But I must admit, that most of them were very polite and quiet. And one night there was a big group with a bus. The staff was very busy with them and the special attention we otherwise had, was gone. Nevertheless, I would recommend this hotel because it is very beautiful, had really good food and it is a perfect location to visit the national park and the biggest caves in Sardinai nearby. Don't go to Sardinia in July and August, unless you like the hurds of Italians visiting the island and the very high temperatures.
