“Very clean and reasonable”

Our room at A Cambridge House was just what we expected. We were in the Porter Room in the Victorian house. The room is small with a high canopy bed and a gas fireplace which we used for a little while. If you are planning to read in bed, the lamps do not throw much light. My Kindle has a light, so this was not a problem for me. The bathroom is small, but with good towels and all the usual soaps and shampoos. The shower is strong and good. The continental breakfast was more than adequate with juice, coffee, hard boiled eggs, coffee cake, pastry, cereal, bagels, and fresh fruit. We were only there for one night and it was fine for us. The other Cambridge inns and hotels are much more expensive. This was reasonable, and, by the way, the people at the desk were very friendly.

Room Tip: From the reviews I have read, the annex rooms sound larger than the rooms in the Victorian house, bu...

“Busy in Cambridge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

The Cambridge House was our last B and B on our honeymoon. While it wasn't our favorite it was certainly nice. The only 'issues' we had were that it felt very tight, rather unfriendly comparatively, and our room was very dark even with all of the lights on. These weren't big issues and no one was rude, just busy. Granted, we had been staying in b and b's in smaller towns and Cambridge is bustling and hardly discernable from Boston so it was bound to have a different atmosphere. The breakfast was so-so with the normal muffins, hard boiled eggs, cereal, and coffee. Our hostess was nice and allowed us to check in a little early which really helped us out. It was really close to the T and a post office which we used regularly.

“Great Place for Weekend Get-away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We headed up to Boston to attend a wedding on Columbus Day Weekend. Not wanting to spend $$$$ for two rooms, two nights, we searched for a reasonable alternative. We found the Cambridge House on-line and couldn't have been happier. The owners were very helpful. It was close to the 'T' (the Red Line-10 minute walk). They included a fine breakfast (eggs, muffins, juice, bagels, cereals) and free parking. Can't beat that in Boston. We had the victorian rooms - a little dark and old, but clean. The area was safe, restaurants near by, and easy to travel from. We are planning another long weekend in the future and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: The victorian rooms are very dark with heavy curtains and old wooden blinds. Be prepared to have no...

“Quiet and well located for visiting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Stayed in a Victorian room on 1st floor of main house on a Wed and Thur. Very enjoyable stay. B&B staff are very nice and accomodating. Had and shared local knowledge freely. Continental breakfast was good, but nothing to rave about. It was well-presented and plenty of seats. The Inn has plenty of parking off the busy Mass Ave. The room was kind of dark which made for great sleeping but challenging for other activity. Multiple windows had individual shutters which could be adjusted for more or less light. If light was important I would ask Sam about rooms on upper floors for your stay.
The bed was quite firm. OK for me, my partner likes a soft and cuddly bed. The linens and pillows were very nice and felt soothing. No problem with bed squeeks or movement noises.
Window AC in room. Noise was not a problem, temp control was adequate.
Bathroom was a comfortable size and well lit. Very clean for such an old in-city property. Good sized common space in lounge which serves as breakfast area. Coffee available all day and was fresh and hot. Being Boston it had a city vibe which is different from Virginia. If you are looking for a chummy B&B experiance with socializing with people you have not met- you may not find it here. If looking for that you may want to locate a common-table family style served bfst location. For us the vibe suited us fine.
Newspapers include the daily Bos Globe, NY Times, and USA Today.
Fast and dependable wireless internet.
Room was very quiet, although practically adjoining the lounge, we heard no travel noise any time of day, yet the place was active with guests and staff.
Beautiful front porch on main house, nice seating to watch the movement on Mass Ave. Two easy trips to subway. Red Line T at Porter Square and at Davis Square. We used Davis Square which is a quick walk across Mass Ave and down Day St then to the left. From there you can get to anywhere in the city.
Enjoyed the stay and will seek it again for personal or business trips. Felt like good value for the $ considering location, amenities, and free parking.

Room Tip: Call Sam and describe your needs, he can guide you to the right room for you.

“Worst experience with their phone line regarding lost and found”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

I might have lost valuables in this hotel, which I hope is only an isolated case. But please let me know if this is not.

This is my worst ever experience with a hotel: telephone was hung up twice when I simply asked about policy regarding lost valuables. Anyone has similar experience with "A Cambridge House B & B Inn"?

They also have bad free wifi for my room, and very old bedding. My room is near to the front door of the house I live, and noise will wake me up whenever people come in and out.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near a front door of house.
