We used the Hotel Tindastoll as a stopping-over-point as we made our way from Akureryi to Budir. The history of the building is evident, well-preserved, and a selling point. Our room was clean, but looked like it had been looted: only 1 wine glass, no mini-bar where one clearly was before, a random water-boiler shoved in a closet with no accompaniment, etc. It felt a little like it wasn’t ready, or that they were down-sizing. Check-in was calm, pleasant, and efficient, and that same person helped us with a bucket of water and some ice to chill the wine we had been traveling with. The hot-pot was ok (lots of dead flies floating around: we could have used the mesh scooper but didn’t really feel like it) and we were offered a beverage but declined. Breakfast was disappointing: we went at 8:10am (as did many of the guests; breakfast was available beginning at 8) and most everything was picked over or there was very little quantity; i.e. ½ a hardboiled egg in a small dish for all the guests; no yoghurt; coffee was becoming empty, etc). All in all, we were glad the Tindastoll was there and remain interested in the building, but it was not a highlight of the trip, and it was one of the more expensive places we stayed in Iceland.
