“Nice Hotel”

This was the first hotel of three on a trip to Iceland. The town it was located in was very small, like most towns outside of Reykjavik. I stayed in a double room with my friend. The room was nice - two single beds pushed together, couch, table, chairs, bathroom had jacuzzi tub. The TV only got like two channels. They had three hot tubs, the one was a little scary (needed cleaned), the other was empty and the other one was nice and clean. The hotel lobby was nice - cheapest souvenirs in Iceland. We didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner but did eat the complimentary breakfast which was very nice - the typical Icelandic breakfast (bread, fish, tomatoes, cucumbers). There is nothing around the hotel really except for a gas station that you can see from the hotel. There is an attraction about 3 miles up the road - they say it is the hottest hot spring in the world. All in all I would stay there again if I am out that way.

“Comfortable retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2007

I stayed here in Sept. 2007 and just turned up to book a single room for a couple of nights. The first price the receptionist gave me was a bit high so I haggled and got it reduced by a third. The room was perfectly adequate with an excellent hot and powerful shower - smelling of hydrogen sulphide (but you get used to that in Iceland).
Breakfast was the usual extensive cold buffet and was fine for my tastes. They have hot tubs outside and several comfortable lounges scattered about the corridors. It is quite large having previously been a boarding school. The corridors are filled with Icelandic Saga pictures and stories which creates a nice ambience.
The Snorri Sturluson museum is just outside and there is a petrol station/shop/cafe just down the road - but not much else at Reykholt. The waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss are not far and don't miss the Deildatunguhver hot springs to the west which are amazing.
If I was in the area again I'd definitely stop here. Nothing fancy, just comfortable and a nice atmosphere.
