The most known volcano in the world which blocked lots of flights across the world this year is just behind your window. Hotel is located in the school as all edda hotels. Rooms are spacious, shared bathroom. If you want to be as close aspossible to the volcano it is the best choice. Also Skogarfoss one of the biggest waterfalls is in walking distance. I recommend this place for every nature lover

At first, I want to book edda in vik, but it was full already. so, another choice near vik is this one in skogar.
Everything is good but all rooms are shared facilities, a bit troublesome.

The hotel is simple (shared showers) but clean and quiet. Top location in the countryside, walking up the river is spectacular. I was very impressed by the buffet dinner, huge choice and good quality. You have to book in advance, even if you're a guest! Otherwise, there is just one other place in the village to get food, a rather pricy hotel. The museum cafe closes at 5, so is not really an option for dinner. Considering this is Iceland, I'd consider both the room and the food a bargain. The bus stops at the nearby waterfall and usually also directly at the hotel.

I read a few negative comments before departure but decided to stay in this hotel nevertheless. It's true that there is very little choice besides this, and that all hotels in Iceland are overpriced, so anyone should be prepared for this. This taken into account, the hotel does provide good service, it's clean and with an excellent view! So if you are a traveller not too spoiled by saunas/tennis courst on site etc, but look simply for a decent place just to rest, this chain hotel is a good choice.
For those who can afford driving a bit further (or closer, depenidng where you drive from), and who can spend a little extra on a significantly better accomodation in terms of its personality and character, I would strongly advice Hotel Anna close to Skogar.
