“A lot of good, some bad. Overall, good choice for Springfield”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

As the title states, there were a lot of good things about the hotel:

Good:
-It was central, and since it was the second tallest building, pretty easy to find
-Location was great because there are some good dining choices and bars within walking distance
-It was clean
-Parking was a very low $8/day which is nearly unheard of when traveling
-The front desk was very accommodating in switching my first room that had a stale smoke odor
-The workout facility was good (large, decent number of machines)

The not so Good:
-The rooms are uniquely shaped and bathrooms a bit small
-The walls did seem a bit thin
-The rooms are getting a little worn

The Bad:
-This completely threw me...what kind of business hotel charges its business guests $1/page to print documents in the business center?? Further, you had to pay to even access the business center computers. I had to print a document, so I emailed it to myself in order to open my web mail and print from the business center...like I have done at every other business hotel. I incurred a $14 charge to log in and print my document. I think that is ABSURD! Plus, the "USB" attached to the printers in the business center are large and outdated
-The Starbucks that I assume was run by the hotel...one morning, I ordered a Venti bold...she pours me a Venti Pikes roast...ok, fine, so I said, excuse me I asked for bold. Instead of pouring me a new cup, like any other Starbucks would, she dumped my coffee back into the Pike coffee and poured my new coffee in the same cup. I know this seems ticky-tacky, but it's not what you would expect from a Starbucks.
-I asked the front desk what time Starbucks opened and they said 6:30 when it was really 6:00. I know you think not a big deal, but it is if you are budgeting your time around that.

Judging from the other hotels, I will definitely stay here again, but I just thought the "bad" items were worth mentioning.

dumpty27,

Thank you for your thorough reveiw. We are pleased that your stay with us was enjoyable and that you had the time to visit the many attractions steps from our hotel. Our hotel is uniquely shaped resulting in uniquely shaped guest rooms and bathrooms. When designing these spaces, we have tried to use all available space wisely. We are always looking for new innovations to make our guestrooms more spacious.

I am sorry you did not find our business center useful and efficient. This will be addressed with the outside company that operates this service. Starbuck's is open at 6:00 am and it is our practice to "re-make" your drink from the start. I will address both issues with the Front Desk and Starbucks staff.

We look forward to having you with us again in the near future.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Very disappointed ! Walls are paper thin. There was no hot water in the morning to shower. Pool was closed the 2nd night of our stay because chemicals had to added. That was to be the kids entertainment and the reason we stayed a 2nd night, instead of driving home tired. Now I feel as if I spent $100 to watch TV!!!!!

Mjlbrn,

So sorry to hear that your stay was not what you expected. We really do try our best to minimize guest noise at the hotel and offer every opportunity for peaceful rest. The pool being closed on your 2nd day was certainly unfortunate, but for our guests safety we do adhere to strict pool regulations and occasionally it does interfere with our guests stay. We apologize for this inconvenience.

“Worst hotel stay ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

I am currently in the hotel right now and it is 5am in the morning. I can't sleep because of the creaking that I hear because of the wind I guess. It is extremely loud! Really! Also, our toliet wouldn't flush from the moment we walked into the room. This hotel is WAY WAY WAY overpriced for the value you get in return. I never really compain about anything, but the LOUD creak that i hear right now is awful! Hopefully you read this and decided to stay somewhere else. Hands down, WORST HOTEL STAY EVER!!!

Jranderson722,

It is true that due to the height of our hotel, on windy nights the building can sway slightly and creak, but most times it is not very noticeable. Unfortunately during your stay it was. I am terribly sorry that this caused you to not have a good experience at our hotel.

“Convenient and nice rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011 via mobile

The room was large but bathroom was small. The staff was kind and brought a white noise machine to help drown some noise they were experiencing. Would recommend the hotel

“Great, friendly staff -- good service - met expectations but they weren't high to begin with!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

people found this review helpful

I have had the opportunity to stay at this hotel many times for business over the course of the last few years -- including 2-3 times again this year. While I have read the reviews of some of the other posters and don't disagree with some of the things they say, I tend to take my travel experiences in context.

This is the largest and one of the few "business" hotels in Springfield -- a town (not a city) where there isn't a whole lot of "business" except when the legislature is in session. As such I don't expect they same as I would as if I am traveling in LA, Chicago or New York on business. Some of the good things: the staff is always great -- helpful, knowledgeable and proactive -- things I expect of ANY hotel when I travel but typically don't always get (they are too busy wowing me with huge lobbies and wine bars and spas that are nice, but when I travel I want service first and foremost and this hotel delivers that.

Second, they have a great breakfast buffet -- full breakfast with almost anything you can want from an American breakfast. I am not sure if it is included in all rates, but seems to always be in mine or perhaps I get it through my HHonors status. Regardless, it is a big plus.

Third, the rooms are fairly spacious and mine always have very comfortable bedding and a nice flat screen TV with plenty of cable channels.

Fourth, location. If you are coming to see the Lincoln sites, you simply cannot be any closer, the Lincoln Home, Museum, Old State Capitol are mere minutes walking distance away and the views from the hotel are nice. I especially love staying here when a storm comes in and seeing the lightening and clouds roll in over the prairie is spectacular.

It is true that this hotel is a little on the worn side -- even remodeled rooms, show some lack of detail and shortcuts that would not be tolerated in a "big city" hotel. (In one room they obviously ran out of wall paper border and just stopped and in the bath they miscut the granite countertop but filled it in with about 3 inches of caulking instead!) But the rooms are clean and comfortable. It is true that Bennigans would not be the first choice of many for a hotel restaurant, but given that the downtown area is DEAD after about 8:00 p.m. it is about the only thing around that is still open and I appreciate them giving me something. I feel sorry for the restaurant as I sometimes wonder how they even stay open it is so quiet in there sometimes!

The hotel offers a small but useable workout facility and an indoor pool, again things most hotels in central Illinois don't offer.

Room Tip: The higher floors have nice views but do tend to sway and creek in windy storms.

Chgotrvlr71,
Thanks for leaving such a detailed review of your stay(s) with us. We sincerely appreciate your continued business and look forward to serving you again in the future. Next time you stay with us you should try our new steakhouse on the 30th floor, Nick and Ninos. We just opened it in November and it offers a nice change of pace from the Bennigans in the lobby level.
