“The best hotel of our trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Perfect little hotel, such lovely staff who were so helpful!!!!

Rooms were spot on just what you needed!

Breakfest and dinner were great and as we were both vege the chef created us our dinner from scratch which was lovely!!

The lady on reception even came out to as we were leaving to tell us which roads were good to drive on and seemed like she was concerned we were heading out in the snow!

perfect little hotel with amazing views of the mountains and not to far from the city!! Hot tubs were great aswell perfect for watching the stars n so peaceful and quiet!!

“Great service, excelent nature environment”

We wanted to get away from the city lights and try a hotel out in the nature. We did stay for 2 nights and we absolutely loved it ! Great service, clean and we got fantastic dinner. I was told they just hired a great cook from another hotel and they surely made the right move there :)

“Cosy yet so close to nature”

The hotel is not much to look at from the outside only because it is not meant to be a distraction amidst the beautiful scenery around... A gorgeous view of black mountains, blanketed by snow at their peak, a lake and a nature reserve where birds drop in...

There is an outdoor hot bath that is delightful to be in when you soak up the beauty of nature around you. You forget that it is below 10degC air temperature before you got into the water!

The rooms are nicely and neatly done with your own French doors opening to your own little patio.

Food is top class with local produce such as mountain lamb and langoustine. The owner also prepared skyr for breakfast exactly how her family would have done it at home!

If you are the type of traveler who want to soak up what Iceland has to offer without really wanting to risk not having a good meal after a long adventure-filled day, you are guaranteed a good stay in Borgarnes.

What's nearby: Snaefellsnes Peninsula, little town of Borgarnes to get some local culture at the Settlement Centre and learn about the Vikings and Sagas (and who would have thought that there is also a Filipino restaurant in town!), little treks to the Children's Falls (Barnafoss) and the Lava Falls (Hraunfossar).

Enough to stay overnight before heading east-south to see geysers, more waterfalls (Gullfoss, Oxara falls) and the historically significant Thingvellir/rift valley of the mid-Atlantic ridge.

Next rest stop recommended: Fludir!

“Great Hotel Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

This hotel alone is a five for service of the hotel staff, especially the new owner. My friends and I arrived at this hotel after a very long drive from Akureyri in a blizzard. We were so thankful to arrive and when we did the staff made it very welcoming.
This is a smaller hotel on a golf course so the lobby area was smaller then normal. We arrived the last weekend in November so the hotel was decorated very nicely for the holidays.
The rooms were a tiny bit outdated but we were informed they would be making some improvements to the rooms to add flat screen TV's soon. However all of the usual amenities were available in the room.
We were informed about the hot tubs that were on both ends of the hotel and without hesitation we agreed to test them out. We were given robs prior to going into the hot tubs which was a nice gesture. After the hot tubs we decided to sit in the dining area and have a cappuccino and enjoy the free WI-FI. We were also filled in on the northern light activity for that evening which I was able to view around 12:30AM....just beautiful.
We attended breakfast in the morning which was very good and had the usual options of breads, cereal, meats, cheeses, yogurt, juices and coffee. The check-out was quick and we were again greeted with the same friendliness as when we arrived.
I will certainly stay at this hotel again given the chance.

This is a great year round hotel just outside of Reykjavik. Perfect winter location for those wanting to view the northern lights. Hotel offer larger then normal rooms, free wifi, hot tubs and restaurant. Beautiful mountain views!

Room Tip: All rooms are pretty much the same.
