“Great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2010

For an average hotel, I've never seen such nice service. I guess I'm used to the sullen and couldn't care less attitude, so it was a nice surprise to talk to people who were interested in what you're doing and just overall had a pleasant attitude. The hotel itself is fine- usual continental breakfast, decent size room, etc. I would stay here again if I'm passing through the area.

We are happy to hear that your stay at Aksarben Super 8 met your expectations. We pride ourselves on providing clean rooms, a friendly environment and superb customer service as we try to earn your “Perfect 10” during each and every stay.

The customer service center you contacted provided me with your kind and objective comments and I want to thank you! Your feedback is extremely valuable, as it allows me to focus my attention on those areas that we excel in and where additional training for my staff may be required in areas we need to improve.

Once again thank you for completing the survey and I will pass your comments along to my staff.

“Wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

This is a great place to stay. All of the hotel staff were extremely nice and helpful. The hotel is well taken care of. Both the rooms and the public areas are very clean. Although the continental breakfast starts at 6:00 a.m., breakfast items were out prior to that and fresh coffee was made. Although we only partook of the coffee, the free continental breakfast was adequate. It included hot waffles, bagels, bread for toast, cinnamon bread, two types of cereal, milk, apple and orange juice, tea and coffee. We got a great rate via the internet and our room couldn't have been more convenient, close to both the front desk, and the back entrance, which required a card key to access, so there is good security. Everything in the room worked: Hairdryer didn't stall out, water pressure was good, water drainage in the tub and the sink were excellent, tv remote worked without having to take it back to the front desk for fresh batteries. A note, the first floor rooms are below ground. While not a problem for us, some might find it an issue. The hotel is conveniently located, near I-80 and also Dodge Street, which is a major east/west street. We had no problems finding it. There are plenty of restaurants along 72nd Street for your dining pleasure and a Super Walmart right down the road for any items you may have forgotten. We were extremely happy with everything about this hotel and would recommend it to anyone.

“Don't stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

Upon arriving in the lobby (with no A/C), the television had a porn channel on. I should have left immediately. The room was musty and damp and had a bad odor. Asked for a different room on an upper floor and that room also smelled bad . There was safety information in the room notifying you that if you see anything suspicious in the parking lot, you should not go out there. The information also said you should check the interior of you car before you get in. This is not a safe place.

“Never again, never!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

I made a reseravation for three nights at this motel because Super 8's are known to be more upscale cheaper hotels. I ended up staying only one of these three nights because of safety issues. The room size was an average size motel room, nothing special. It had all of your typical amenities that you would find at a motel. The mattess was very uncomfortable and the pillows were paper thin. The staff at the front desk seemed a bit incompetent and were not polite (I got this same vibe when I made the reservation over the phone a few days earlier). It was very humid in the room and it smelled musty. Everything in the room was a little damp because of the humidity level (which is not a big deal to me because I'm from Iowa and I'm used to that kind of humidity). In my opinion, the room wasn't very clean and you could see proof of that in the bathroom (especially in the bathtub). When I went to request a couple more pillows I was told that I would have to wait about an hour becasue they were washing the pillow cases (this was at 9:40 at night when I was getting ready for bed). The lady at the front desk took down my room number and told me that she'd take the pillows to my room when the pillow cases came out of the wash. I was a bit upset about this because the pillow cases should've been washed during the day, but I let it slide. However, the pillow cases never came, and I was too tired to go back up to the front desk and request a couple pillows again. So, I just decided to wait until the next day to request more pillows. However, when my friend, my brother, and me were in my room watching TV (around 2:00 in the afternoon) someone claiming to be housekeeping just walks into my room without knocking even though housekeeping came earlier in the day. As this "housekeeper" was walking into my room he sees my brother sitting on the floor and says "oh sorry, housekeeping" and abruptly walks out. I wasn't able to see who it was that just walked into my room because he left so fast, but I felt that my safety was comprimised staying at that motel because of this. I don't know what this person's intentions were, and it made me feel very uncomfortable staying at that motel. For all I know he could've been going into my room to steal my stuff. So, I went up to the front desk and complained (this took a lot out of me because I'm not someone that likes to complain). I decided that my safety is worth more than staying at a motel that I was already dissappointed with so I checked out and left to a Motel 6 that was a lot nicer and not as expensive. The front desk person was nice to give me a refund for the first night and every night after that (even though I never even asked for one, and two days later I still have yet to see that refund). However, the person at the front desk basically laughed at me as I was telling her all the complaints that I had towards that motel, and there was a man beside her behind the front desk that was acting a bit suspicious and said a few things that made me and my friend think it might have been the person that just walked into the room (I decided not to mention this to either of them, and he wasn't part of housekeeping). After the lady plugged my refund into the computer I packed up my bags and checked out of the motel. All I can say is I better actually see that refund or there's going to be some real hell upraising in the near future.

“Dog friendly though small room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2010

person found this review helpful

I made reservations several weeks in advance as I was arriving from California. I arrived after three days of driving and the PM desk clerk was very friendly and accommodating. Warm chocolate chip cookies were in the breakfast room. The room was on the bottom floor, lower than ground level. The room was relatively small, with much of the area taken up by the table and the recliner. One had to walk between the dresser and bed to get to the table and luggage rack area. The clearance between the dresser and the bed was barely wide enough for my rolling carryon, and certainly wouldn't meet ADA standards for clearance. There was no closet or hanging alcove, just a rod and shelf in the corner of the room. The recliner was a nice touch, but if you don't have time to use it, it just took up too much room. Service: although the checkin clerk was wonderful, the evening staff was not so much. About 11PM after my last dog walk, my room keycard wouldn't work and I went to the desk to get it reprogrammed. No one was at the desk, though the door to the back office was open. I rang the bell several times and quietly called "hello" hoping someone might hear me. I was at that desk for 8 minutes wondering what I was to do. Finally, a different desk clerk came down from a room off the hall on the next level; the cigarette smell from the room actually preceded the clerk herself. It was obvious that she had been in a nearby room taking a smoke break. However, the wait time for a client at 11PM was inappropriate. Because of that experience, I downgraded the service rating, which is not to take away from the wonderful PM clerk who checked me in. Location was fine for dog-walking about a residential neighborhood, but not walking distance to many restaurants. There is an upscale Italian restaurant adjacent to the hotel, but it didn't have anything reasonably priced for a vegetarian other than a salad. The salad was good, however. I'm giving the hotel a recommendation only because I don't know if the non-dog rooms are better than the dog room I got.
