“Comfort, luxury, friendly, professional - beautiful grounds and restauarant”

We spent two nights here on our way down to the Cote d'Azur. We liked everything about this hotel - the facilities, the grounds, the pool, the location, the friendliness of the staff along with untroubled professialism, the wine list, the food - and spending the early evening drinking Kir Royale in the courtyard. The mezzanine bedroom makes it like a junior suite but watch out going down the steps to the loo at night - a pencil torch will mean you don't have to wake your partner!

“Sadly the magic has gone.”

We last stayed at Pizay in 2007. We had stayed several times before this and I always loved it. My last review is still on Trip Advisor. However I was most disappointed this time. The hotel is a Silence hotel, but the quiet restful atmosphere is no longer there. It seems that the hotel is being used for corporate bookings and this meant that the quiet areas were full of noisy reps waiting for their transport home. We dined here and had to ask twice for our aperitifs before they arrived - not good. The meal was only OK, but I had lamb which was almost all fat. The fat was not crispy so inedible. There was about 2 square centimetres of edible lamb. Our total bill for 2 people for 1 night in a duplex room with dinner and breakfast was 394 euro.
The magic has gone. Wwe will not return, nor could we reccomend this hotel to friends any more.

“Not what we expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2008

My wife and myself stayed here for three nights in August. We were hoping for a country chateau experience but found a modern hotel built in the grounds (which are very pretty) of an old chateau. The rooms are in a purpose-built block with the breakfast room. The rooms are beautiful modern duplex affairs with the bed on a mezzanine.Breakfast was poor with limited choices, one member of staff, no plates are cleared away until you leave, in a sterile uninteresting room.
The spa was good though booking before arrival advisory. The restaurant is in the old chateau and the hotel requests guests to wear casual dress in the restaurant. The meal was reasonable though expensive and we ate elsewhere the second and third nights.

“Lovely rooms and helpful service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2008

We booked this hotel through the Relais de Silence website which was cheaper than booking directly - the hotel couldn't match the Relais deal! We were driving down to the South of France and the hotel is just off the motorway. The room was fabulous - very spacious, recently refurbished, lovely bathroom - a lovely place to spend the evening. We hadn't booked the restaurant and they weren't able to fit us in that evening - we were travelling in quite a large party - but the front desk girls were very happy to recommend another local restaurant and book us a table which was also superb. Really beautiful, well kept grounds with a lovely pool which we used extensively and a full spa which we didn't. Great breakfast included in the price.

“Worth going for the topiary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2008

Hotel was recommended by a colleague who had waxed lyrical about a romantic trip he and wife had taken, I forgot to ask how long ago.

Lovely old building in peaceful location in beautiful Beaujolais with stunningly well kept yew topiary gardens. Rooms are badly dated but comfortable. Main reception rooms also need massive update. There is something very 70s about the whole place which needs fixing. Bathrooms are modern but eccentric, the shower is definitely not power shower.

The meal however was exceptionally good and it was heartening to see so many locals eating there. The food was light but well cooked and the service attentive. Wines from the Chateau's own vineyard were very good value.

We would go back but theres lots of competition locally. It really could be great but for the price it doesnt quite make it.
