“Silence...food...wine...yum...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

Having stayed there for a three nights for the wedding of a cousin, we took the time to explore the surroundings - wonderful semi-guided walks on the doorstep of the hotel in woods or in the vineyards - we also treated ourselves to a few treatments in the Spa - all very lovely in the caves that all felt recently converted to a good standards, the outdoor swimming pool in late May was warm enough to be used every morning and the food... We took the gastronomic dinner on our first evening and even thought we knew we had a wedding feast coming two days later, this was really delicious. A collection of good size portions so you can enjoy the last dish as much as the first one. This is naturally providing you also give yourself enough time to explore the wine list - not too large but all the options we found were excellent. And, if you need a little guidance somewhere, whether with the dishes, wine, treatments, walks or anything else, simply ask a member of staff that we all found attentive. This includes a little mistake at the end of our stay that was solved via a follow up correspondence. This is part of the Relais du Silence, so, if you are looking for a quiet place in this area, this is it!

Room Tip: Depending on whether you go for the Chateau style of room or the more modern feel, I would recommend...

“Perfect romantic jaunt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

I offered a stay at the beautiful Chateau de Pizay to my partner for our two years anniversary. I had booked an offer including a one night in a junior suite, 30 minutes massage, two hours access to the spa facilities and a dinner at the gastronomic restaurant of the hotel.

The venue itself is simply beautiful. When you arrive, the very first thing you see is the castle itself which has been very well preserved over the years. The castle is surrounded by wonderful gardens with very elegantly shaped trees. Although we arriver two hours before the check-in time, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that our room was already ready for us.

The suites are not in the castle itself, but in a building that is 50 meters away. The building where the suites and the spa are is U-shaped with an open wire pool in the middle which has a wonderful view ver the castle's vineyards. The rooms are quite big and all have a terrace. Rooms include very modern equipment are extremely comfortable.

I personally really enjoyed the spa and not only the message. The facilities include a 30°C pool, with different sets of bubble massage beds and seats as well as special massage showers. In a separate room is the sauna, the steam room, a cold water pond as well as a special shower with rainforest-like program. You really have to try it!

The dinner is absolutely fantastic and definitely worth the price. It is however French top notch cuisine and the portions aren't big. Also note that there is a lot of time between the courses, so for a starter+main+dessert with the couple of "tasters" in-between takes about three hours. Whatever you chose to eat, make sure to have a wine from the chateau itself, not only is it divine but it is also a very well repotted Beaujolais! Speaking of food, the breakfast buffet is also incredible with "pains au chocolat" and croissants to die for.

“Relaxing at Pizay (and good for biz, too)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

Maybe not so charming - even if partly built on a real castle, some other hotels of this kind are more fascinating - but it is a great place for relaxing: total silence around, beautiful park, SPA & indoor pool.

Average food, great service and courtesy of the staff.

I'd say the real strength of this hotel are the rooms: I' ve been in one in the "dependance" (the new building) which was so nice, having the bed on a mezzanine and the bathroom with a small living room on the ground floor, with also a small private area outside, opening the French window, with a table and two chairs and a view on the fountain of the park.

I've been there for a business meeting: it's just OK also fo such purposes (good meeting rooms, equipment, etc.)

“Nice relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2011

We stayed here for a few days during our honeymoon to relax after the wedding and a few days in Paris. The chateau is surrounded by a nice formal garden and Beaujolais wine fields almost as far as the eye can see. It's a great starting point for exploring the Beaujolais region and you can start tasting right at the chateau as they operate a winery.

We had a spacious room with its own secluded terrace in one of the older buildings in front of the castle. We loved it and when we looked around the hotel it seemed that our room was one of the best you could get (without paying for the much more expensive rooms inside the main building). Breakfast was served in our room at no extra charge and free wifi was available in our room as well.

We dined in the restaurant, the service and ambiance were nice. The food was decent but did not live up to the expectations raised by the location and price range. We did have some of their own wines with our dinner and they were very nice.

We used the services of the spa and the treatments (we both had a full body massage and my wife had a facial treatment) were very nice. The spa itself is not very large, it consists of a swimming pool with several jets and whirlpools built in, a steam bath, a sauna and several different showers and cold baths, all clean and in good condition. We had it all to ourselves during the time we spent there, we got the impression that it was reserved just for us which would partly explain the steep price (€ 40 pp) for access. We booked the spa including the brunch buffet but from a price - performance perspective neither the facilities nor the buffet were what we expected.

All in all we had a great stay, very enjoyable and relaxing.

“Comfort, luxury, friendly, professional - beautiful grounds and restauarant”

We spent two nights here on our way down to the Cote d'Azur. We liked everything about this hotel - the facilities, the grounds, the pool, the location, the friendliness of the staff along with untroubled professialism, the wine list, the food - and spending the early evening drinking Kir Royale in the courtyard. The mezzanine bedroom makes it like a junior suite but watch out going down the steps to the loo at night - a pencil torch will mean you don't have to wake your partner!
