“Lovely home, great location, comfortable stay”

We stayed at Domaine de la Cavaliere last summer with our 2 teenage boys. The room was lovely, the grounds were beautiful, there was a pool for the boys to let off some steam after touring around all day. We had a very nice dinner one night with Corrine and Gil with other guests who did not speak much English and Corrine and Gil helped the conversations flow. The home is centrally located in Provence so day trips to different areas is very easy. We stayed in 2 connecting rooms - one room with 2 beds for the boys, connected to another room with the bath and queen bed. Spacious and nicely appointed.

“perfect retreat in the Luberon”

My husband and I with our 3 month old baby stayed here for a 3 night vacation in July 08. After a little difficulty in finding the domaine (don't follow the map on their website, its not that good!) we arrived to find the gorgeous stone mas looking even better than it does on the website. Corinne and Gil have created an open house feel to the place and their friendly and relaxed style make you feel at home straight away. Our room was located at the end of the house up an external stone staircase, the room of the writer, again it looked better than the website pictures on arrival! We loved the individual decor and it was clean and spacious enough for us to set up the baby bed as well. On our first evening we dined at the domaine and we recommend you try to eat there at least one night of your stay. The evening kicked off with all guests meeting in the open air lounge area for aperitif with Corinne and Gil, and this gave everyone a chance to chat before all 10 guests being seated at the large dining table. A nice touch was the seperate dining table for the younger guests who were served before the adults with Corinne and Gil's daughters organising some card games afterwards which worked very well with the many different nationalities in attendance! Our home cooked dinner was excellent, 4 courses, with wine, very worth the 29euros per head price. The morning breakfast was a leisurely affair around 9.00am with the standard French fair of croissants, fresh bread, confitures and fruit. Many guests took advantage of the local masseuse who Corinne will book for you to have a massage on site. We enjoyed the pool during the afternoons after sight-seeing and liked to watch the owners horses in the large fields in the grounds. For sight-seeing trips to Gordes, Roussillon are a must. For eating we recommend the semi-gastro Bistro in Cabrieres D'Avignon for an evening meal, be sure to phone and book a table. We would definately stay at the domaine again, Corinne and Gil have created a free spirited, relaxed atmoshere that you'll not find in larger hotels.

  • Liked — the actual mas building and the relaxed atmosphere
  • Disliked — the dodgy website map directions btrying to arrive!!

“Perfect French countryside inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2008

Wow! Once we found our way to the Domaine de la Cavaliere, contrary to a previous post, it is on a country lane well outside town, Corrine and Gil made us feel right at home.

DO NOT miss a chance to dine with them! We shared aperitifs (our first Pastis!) in the living room and then went to the kitchen. We all lent a hand setting up while Gil tended to the chicken cooking on the fireplace grill.

Everything was great and we sat around the table, enjoying local Ventoux wine, until nearly midnight. The dollar was stronger at the time (2004), but when we checked out the entire meal was only 50 euros - for the three of us!

The next morning Gil went to the local bakery to pick up fresh baguettes for our leisurely continental breakfast. Perfect!

Corrine provided some helpful sightseeing hints (Fontaine du Vaucluse and Oppede le Vieux) and parted with some lavender honey.

There are more inspiring views up in the 'perched' villages, however the wonderful hospitality more than made up for that
.

“deceiving”

Very different experience from previous reviewer. I would agree that it is in a great location in Luberon and the deco is nice. Setting is defintetly not breathtaking - it is next to an extremely busy road so from the garden and the room you will hear the traffic. Room was OK (again, nice deco) but quite run down and badly equiped. No soaps or gels available, no change of towels. Breakfast is very meager. No bar service during the day and no minibar in the room. Overall service is very average: easy going and friendly yes, but I would say too close to being careless. There is a horse farm but you see the horses from far away (so don't go there for this, especially in case you go with children). Overall, website is very misleading -including the prices. We were charged more than we were told. For sure will not go back and won't recommend it to friends.

“fantastic stay in the luberon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2006

Our family of four just returned from a fantastic stay at Domaine de la Cavalière, a guest house and horse farm near the town of Isle sur Sorgue in the Luberon. With a air of casual, relaxed elegance, owners Corinne and Gil and their two daughters entertain guests in their rambling stone "mas" as if they were old friends, making them feel both special and at home. Breakfast on the patio is included; dinner is optional but highly recommended as the owners are truly outstanding cooks. With sweeping views that extend to Mount Ventoux, the guesthouse has just four rooms, each of which is whimsically decorated to reflect the Provencal countryside along with the owners' taste for exotic travel. Domaine de la Cavalière is ideally located for day trips to the nearby hill villages of Bonnieux, Saignon, Gourdes and Roussillon, for example, and Corinne ably equips guests with daily itineraries and maps that include stops and friends' wineries and olive oil mills. Recommended for both couples and families. We can't wait to return!
