My sister and I took a cross country trip and this was the worst motel we stayed at going from coast to coast and back. We were on our way to the Grand Canyon Skywalk and knew there wouldn't be many places to stay after Boulder so when we saw the AAA sign out front of the Sands hotel we decided to stay. The guy at the front desk was very strange and we should have taken it as a sign.
Our room was horrible. The bathtub had all flaking and peeling paint and rusted areas. The carpeting was dark and filthy and had big wrinkles in it. The blinds were broken. There was a door in the back corner of the room that was locked from the other side and we didn't know where it went to. The room next door was the laundry room for the hotel (for the hotel laundry not for people staying in the hotel). We peeked in there and didn't see a door going to our room so hopefully it was just a storage room or something but still kind of creepy for 2 women alone.
There was an unlabeled video tape in one of the drawers (but no video player) and I joked it was probably a porn tape! The TV and microwave and fridge were all plugged into the same extension cord and did not look safe.
When My sister sat on her bed the light over her bed would go off on it's own. The sheets were threadbare and the bed coverings looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The towels in the bathroom were so thin and had frayed edges and threads hanging from them and my sister's bath towel had a huge hole in it!!
The guy from the front desk stopped in to fix a broken thing he noticed and it totally gave me the creeps!
This was by far the worst place we stayed at during our 6 week trip! I would not recommend it at all! YUCK!
