I stayed here for about four hours to take a nap and freshen up between long flights. Service was adequate, the room was large but it and the hotel itself was very shabby and in disrepair. Afterwards a bill for $400 suddenly appeared on my account. Without letting me know, they charged me for "room damage." When we called they said it was because of "oil damage in the parking lot from my car." This was especially extraordinary because I didn't have a car but had used their airport shuttle service. They were quite rude in dealing with this and finished by saying they'd have to "check their data" to resolve it. In the end we had to contest the charge with the credit card company. Smells like a scam to me.

The room we got was huge. The smell in the room also. The heating didn't work (September in Alaska is quite chilly at night). Tried to call the reception but the telefon didn't work. I walked down, I was told to wait. I was waiting in the room so I tried to use my lap top. No internet service although it was advertised. Ok, tried to watch tv. Tv was broken. I walked down to the reception, where I wated a room change. Incredibly, they were full that night. They offered some blankets, that's all. It was mdnight, so we couldn't do much more, fell asleep finally.
Next morning I was promised full refund by the manager, surely I'would get it from hotels.com. The money never arrived. I hope you guys can learn from my experience.

The is our second year in a row we stayed at this location. It is very convenient to the airport, food establishments and stores. We really enjoyed watching all the float planes across the street at Lake Hood, which is the largest in the world for float plan activity, about 400 takeoffs and landings a day. The free breakfast is good. We stay here the night we arrive and the night we leave. This year we stayed a second night prior to leaving as we wanted to walk across the street for a float plan ride. The manager was very helpful.The rooms are clean and acceptable for our limited stay. We would consider it about a two star hotel but it served our special purpose well. It is in need of some upgrading but that was not a real issue to us.

We chose this hotel as it was cheaper ($160) than the local chain hotels (now I realize why) and close to the airport via free shuttle (which was good and prompt). We checked in at 10:30pm with a 6:30 am flight the next morning to Homer, so all we needed was a bed and a shower, but now wish we had just slept at the airport.. Long House is former military quarters from the 50's/60's and the furnishings are obviously original. All the uphostered chairs, both in the guestroom and the lobby were not only so dated, but so filthy that I wouldn't even sit on them.Our downstairs guestroom (good we didn't have a 2nd floor room as our large luggage would have been an effort w/o an elevator) was exaggerated "basic"; the queen bed was OK and the bathroom exaggerated basic, but clean. We had the same desk clerk when we checked in late at night as in the am; she suggested we get up at 4am to catch a 6:30 am flight, which sounded a bit extreme, but we followed her directions. At 4:30 am when the lobby wasn't ready for "breakfast"; there were no food at all. The coffee was being prepared, as the clerk was surprised to see us so early! The registration/receipt process was cumbersome, and no receipt was offered until we requested one, like this was unusual! The guy running the shuttle service was cool, sort of an aged Paul Newman guy. (Also the shuttle interior was filthy). The Longhouse specialty is hosting fishermen in groups of several guys per room to split the cost; and to haul their fish coolers!
