“Great for business travel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I travel to Anchorage, AK quarterly for business. Each time, I choose the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel for my stay. The location is very convenient, the rooms, consistently clean, and the beds, very comfortable. The staff is outstanding, especially sales manager, Michael Jesperson. He made sure I was satisfied with my room, the service, and generally went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable.

“Average Property/ Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

First, the people at this Sheraton are why I'm giving this a four rating. All of the individuals, with one exception, were really outstanding - very, very friendly - sincere and welcoming.

Its an older Sheraton, which you see a lot as a dedicated SPG traveler. But the lobby and bar and gym were nice. When I checked in I wasn't upgraded (I'm a newly minted Gold member, having switched my loyalties from Hilton). I asked about it and was told it could cost extra. The next night (I mean, I flew 18 hours to get there, so I didn't press it) I called SPG and they contacted the hotel. David from the hotel ended up calling me and apologizing and offering me a suite upgrade, which I didn't end up taking - just too exhausted. I did get the club room access and free breakfast/ evening snacks. So, David was very, very lovely.

The gym is great and has a great view - if you manage to go when the sun is up. The top floor also had a spa which I didn't use but looked nice. That floor generally looked nicer than where I was too.

I would just say the standard room could use a good scrub! Check under the light switches and clean the tile in the shower.

The hotel has a shuttle that takes you downtown on the hour. Again, all the people were very friendly - above average that you would expect for a hotel. David was really extraordinary. Also, a colleague I was traveling with stayed at the Marriott downtown and commented that her suite was dirty!!

Room Tip: Higher is better. I'm told that if you face North you can see the Northern Lights.

“Freezing and not for a reason this time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My issues began as soon as I walked into my room. I thought I had just walked back outside to the icy cool. Cold doesn't even begin to describe it. After turning heat up to 90 I left to go get a bit of lunch at the Jade. Horrible waiter...forgot our order and brought appetizer after main meal...no a big deal but Sheraton sorry starting out bad...could it get any worse? Guess so because after about a hour and a half, we returned to our room to find it still freezing. Call guest services...took 5 different tries to get ahold of someone. Finally they will send a tech to come look. He arrives 45 minutes later and cannot figure out why we have no heat. After him coming and leaving serverals different times he finds what is wrong and the heat has begun to work. We keep thermostat at 90 because it's freezing so bad in our room. We leave again for our appt at the ice spa. Finally some relaxation...wrong. We were told to be 1/2 hr early...to what sit and wait for 45? Finally the receptionist walks us in without any real understanding on where to get undressed and what to do. No talk of the tea we were promised with our appt. I figure out for myself and sit and wait another 20-25 minutes for our couples massage. Finally they come get us and we are in the room. For one, every place I've been for a massage usually shuts the windows for privacy and peaceful atmosphere. Overall my massage was mediocre. Nothing to frilly....guess I'll go back to Thailand for an amazing massage. Finally we pay and leave to head back to room...it's still cold. Try to call guest services...no answer. The entire time after he "fixed" heater it was on 90...think perhaps I wouldn't have to freeze all night? Guess not. Ended up going out and buying an electric room heater. Thanks Sheraton you lost another one here.

Dear Bridgetrh

I want to sincerely apologize for the challenges and inconvenience we caused you during your recent stay at our hotel. There is no excuse I can offer for not providing the accommodations or level of service you deserve. I completely understand your frustration and why you found it necessary to document your concerns in your TripAdvisor review.

I am very sorry that you were checked into a room with a malfunctioning thermostat. We should have done a better job of repairing the unit, or offering you alternative accommodations. I can assure you that retraining has already begun to make sure we are being responsive to our guest’s needs, with our ultimate goal being to meet or exceed guest expectations.

I can promise you that we do learn from our mistakes. I have already shared your experience and comments with our engineering, food/beverage and spa teams (in an educational and constructive manner) so that we can grow as an organization and learn not to repeat our errors.
