I booked with the Howard Johnson Plaza because I had stayed there before when it was a Holiday Inn, and liked it very much. Their website said that they had an airport shuttle and a restaurant, and I remembered the restaurant as being very nice. So I arrived in Anchorage by train and trudged up the hill in the snow to the Howard Johnson Plaza. When I checked in, I told the lady that I would need to take their shuttle to the airport in the morning to pick up my rental car. She told me that they don't have a shuttle. I told her that their website says they do, and that's why I booked this hotel. She said they had it when I booked, but no longer. So I asked her what time breakfast would be served, and she said they closed their restaurant a week ago. She offered to reduce my daily rate from $127 to $79, which I appreciated, as it would more than cover my cab fare to the airport. When I opened to door to Room 333, I was hit with a blast of very hot air. The heat was on full, and I had to turn it off and open the window to cool it down. It was 5 degrees outside, and I had to keep the window open for half the night. There were no facial tissues in the bathroom. I turned on the water and it came out dark brown. The towels were once white but were now gray. Next time I'll stay somewhere else.
