“My favorite hotel in Anchorage”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

I spent a week here in mid-December as I've done for the last several winters. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Winter rates are very affordable. The beds are very comfortable. Views of downtown Anchorage and the port are great. The service is great and the parking garage is very convenient. The Christmas Gingerbread Village is really something to see and the Health Club is first class--best I've ever experienced in a hotel. I haven't eaten in the restaurant on the top floor, and the bistro has been closed every time I've visited, but Fletcher's on the ground level has great pizza and Italian, terrific service, and a comfortable, homey atmosphere.

Room Tip: Top-levels really sway when the wind blows in winter. Get a mid-level room (floors 6-10) facing the...

“nice hotel but too dark for my liking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

i stay at this hotel often for work and indeed it is 'nice'. the decorations around the holidays are beautiful, but honestly I think it is dark. The meeting rooms, the bed rooms, the hallways it is all dark. they could benefit from upgrades in the area. in the summer their rates are just too dang high but for that matter most of Anchorage is too high in the summer.

Room Tip: the rooms on 5th street side are louder than 4th street side.

“A Pleasant Surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

We were assigned this hotel as part of our Diamond Princess cruise. It was one of the nicest hotels I've ever been in. Great shops, restaurants, lounges, rooms...just all in all a gorgeous hotel!

“Great place to stay”

I have stayed at Hotel Captain Cook several times over the past 5 years, when travelling on business. I have never been disapointed. The rooms are clean and comfortable, spa is relaxing, food and service outstanding. I wouldn't stay anywhere else. On one occasion, when the volcano was acting up, upon arrival at the airport and finding my flight had been cancelled. i called and not only did they offer me a room, they offered to come and get me. Personalized service such as this is a hard find today. I will never stay any where else when in town. They have a customer for life.

Room Tip: There are three towers all with excellent views of either the mountains, city or water. I have trie...

“Better Than Average”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

We opted to stay locally at the Hotel Captain Cook because we were attending a Christmas party just up the street at the Egan Center. The Hotel Captain Cook was just 2 blocks away within convenient walking distance of the Egan Center.

Just across the street (south) is the Dimond Parking Garage. Since we heard that parking was free during our stay we opted to drive both vehicles in since I had come into Anchorage earlier that day for work and my girlfriend drove in from Palmer.

We got both vehicles parked and went to check in. Sure enough they gave us two hotel parking stubs to put in out vehicles and made our way to the room...15th floor in Tower 2. The room was nice and the view of the Cook Inlet was okay (weather was crappy and obscured the view). Later, our first two drinks at Fletchers downstairs we thought were "substandard". The second two were okay I guess. The drinks later on that night at Fletchers after our party were much better and worthy of praise. We ate breakfast in the hotel the following morning. It was very good and above average as breakfasts go....reasonably priced too.

Checking out was rather painless until I got the bill. It appears that our free parking was not free. I was charged $18 per vehicle (X2) so the bill was way higher than anticipated. When I questioned the parking the clerk at the counter said that I would be getting free parking at the government rate. No offer to partially comp the price either. I've stayed at hotels all over the US and normally a clerk worth their salt will do what they can to ease the sting a bit. Not this guy, which is why I'm here writing the review.
