“THE MOST INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE EVER ON VACATION!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2011

It is hard to find words to describe the experiences we had at Knik River Lodge but I will do my best! I would go back in a heartbeat! We were picked up in Anchorage and driven out to the lodge by Peter, the owner of the lodge. He kept us entertained all the way out the the lodge with his stories! About a quarter mile from the lodge we saw a moose next to the road. The views were amazing from the lodge!!! Within ten minutes of arriving we were taking off in the helicopter to tour Knik Glacier. It was my first time in a helicopter and I loved it! Now I truly know what a birds eye view is! Our pilot Steve was very knowledgeable and only added to the experience. We saw trumpeter swans and two moose drinking from a lake on the way out to the glacier. We first landed at the base of the glacier and got out to explore some. Incredible views all around us! Once back in the helicopter we flew further out on the glacier and landed! I couldn't believe it! We weren't allowed to get out this time because one wrong move and we would have fallen into one of the crevasses of the glacier. The glacier was a blue that I have never seen any where else. I didn't want the pilot to take off but he did. We flew over Lake George coming back. So beautiful! Glaciers, mountains, icebergs, lakes, trees and wildlife. you name it and we saw it! After landing we were served a delicious gourmet meal in the yurt. I had never seen a yurt in person. Very interesting to say the least. It was windy outside but nice and warm inside the yurt. Cushions were provided for the picnic tables and the tables are set with fine linens and dinnerware. Soft music was playing in the background. And the food? The food was delicious! When they say gourmet they mean it! They start you off with fresh sourdough bread accompanied with a dipping sauce. I had the seafood chowder to begin with and my husband had the french onion soup. Wonderful! For the main course I chose the halibut and my husband chose the steak. Both were divine! How do I know this? Because it looked so good I had to try my husbands steak too! To end our meal my husband had the creme brulee and I had the chocolate torte. Oh my, the chocolate torte! That was worth the trip if you are a chocoholic like I am. You've heard of death by chocolate? Well this is life by chocolate because you want to live to eat it again! It was the most delicious chocolate torte I have ever had in my life! The service was wonderful. Everyone associate with Knik River Lodge were so nice! Customer satisfaction is their number one priority and believe me they do not disappoint! We will definitely be back and next time we will be staying overnight! Who wants to stay in a cookie cutter hotel when you can have a true Alaskan experience by staying at Knik River Lodge? And this is coming from someone who lived in Alaska for 12 years! So book your trip today and I guarantee you will not be disappointed!!!

“Looking for a getaway? Great choice.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

My husband and I spent 3 days/2 nights here. We typically stay in 4 star hotels. The cabins are new and quite comfortable. The beds were comfortable as well. We enjoyed our time here. We did eat one evening meal at their restaurant and the food was quite good if a little pricey $72.00 for two people although the restaurants I saw in Anchorage were just as pricey. They do have new helicopter if you want to go for a tour of the glacier and mush the dogs. If you're looking to get away from it all this is a great place. Don't miss the Knik Glacier Tours with Tom, we did the jet boat to the glacier and were able to get within feet of it. We had just been on a 7 day inside passage cruise and this jet boat trip was GREAT! We were able to see it up close and even go to a camp just beside the glacier. One day we drove up to Wasilla and ate at Matsu Diner, great food, have the halibut fried fish & chips - the best I ate in Alaska & Canada. I think I ordered fish & chips at 4 different ports and none of them were as good as Matsu Diner. This lodge has great views.

“Beginning of a new Tradition”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

This was our first time at the Knik River Lodge and we're looking forward to making this a yearly tradition. We wanted a night away from our hectic lives in Anchorage and found what we later decided was an early anniversary gift to ourselves. We began the "evening out" with Beef Wellington, crab legs, halibut, and salmon (rivaling the quality of food found in upscale Anchorage restaurants) served in the on-stie rustic restaurant. After dinner, we spent a couple of hours lounging on the porch reading books and enjoying the view and the swarm of swallows that dipped in aerial displays for a few minutes outside our cabin. Later we relaxed with a DVD from lodge's collection and enjoyed the sunset from this primo location. The mini fridge and microwave in our room allowed us to keep our drinks cold and would have given us the opportunity to augment our meals if we'd spent more than one night. In the morning, we watched the helicopter leave on a tour as we readied for our drive back toward town and our eventual stops for a hike at the nearby Pioneer Peak trailhead and some 4-wheeling at the Knik River Bridge.

“Good stay, but the location a little boring”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2011

Good stay in a very clean, quiet and well build cottage. This cottage stood in a beautifull surrounding. Meals are not included and pricy. And you are a bit of a drive from Palmer. No tv, only DVD's. Be sure to know that the cottages are situated next to each other, so there is less privacy than other cottages that we visited before.
