“Felt like Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2009

We stayed at South Bluffs on two separate weekends, with a trip to the Kenai peninsula in between. Anchorage was our entrance point to Alaska, and South Bluffs didn't disappoint! We stayed in both rooms, and WOW they were huge! Soaking tub in both rooms were great for our little one, and also very tempting after our Half Marathon. Karin gave us plenty of good advice about travel in Alaska, specifically also about where to find groceries and good restaurants. She also offered to us to take their pack n' play on our trip to the Kenai, and let us use their washer and dryer so that we didn't have to take our smelly clothes to Denali.

The room was ready for us when we rolled in around 10:30 PM local time, after a 19 hour Odyssey getting to Alaska. Of course we came the weekend before the Midnight Sun, so it was still daylight! When we arrived the pack n' play was already set up, and Nick gave us a warm welcome. After a sound sleep in the huge King size bed, we greeted the morning with divine scones and fruit from Karin; which we requested in bulk on our second weekend. Loved the picturesque view of the mountains from their property, and our little one really enjoyed the playground. Great home base for any trip to Alaska. Wonderful neighborhood, easy to get in and out of town, and excellent hosts.

Oh, the fresh flowers were exquisite! Best place we stayed at in Alaska.

“Wish we could have stayed longer!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2008

My husband and I stayed at the South Bluff B&B for 1 night during an overnight stay in Anchorage between our trip to Denali and Seward. I wish we could have stayed there longer as the accomodations were wonderful. We stayed in the 2nd floor suite which had a extremely soft and comfortable king size bed as well as a jacuzzi in the bathroom (which we unfortunately did not get the chance to use). We did however use the hot tub in the backyard which is available to guests, and that was a great way to unwind after all the excursions which we had done. The room also has a great view of Turnagain Arm. The only downfall to the room was a window that was located higher up on the wall which has no shade so the late evening and early morning light was able to be let in.
The husband and wife who own the B&B were so nice and helpful and were so pleasant to talk to. Breakfast was also delicious as they bring it up to your room upon your request. They even provide snacks and juice in the room for you to use.
The house may not be walking distance to downtown, but if you have your own car I would highly recommend this place to others.

“Excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2008

Our family had a wonderful stay at the South Bluff B&B for three nights. The property is on a cul-de-sac and the host family have several children and a dog, so this place is the most kid friendly B&B I've ever been to by far. The view outback is stunning, but from my children's standpoint was complimented by a shed full of bikes, a swingset, toys and other kids to play with. If you are a solo couple or family with older kids, take the 2nd floor suite and enjoy the view. If you have young kids, take the first floor suite as the kids will be running back and forth constantly to the back yard to play. Highly recommended.

“Gorgeous view, luxurious amenities, delicious breakfast; they have it all!”

A wonderful place to stay! We had come from a slightly less than satisfying stay at a bed and breakfast in Kodiak, Alaska and reserved this room, sight unseen, we were traveling without our laptop on our annual Anniversary Trip. We were pleased to find out that everything was exactly as described to us on the phone. Our host(ess) Karin was extremely kind and helpful but wasn't at all intrusive or in our way. The view from the deck outside our upstairs room was fabulous. The king size bed was very comfortable, the jacuzzi tub enjoyable and the granola that the canister on our kitchenette sink was filled with was beyond compare! Breakfasts were delicious huge bowls of fresh fruit salad and yummy warm home made muffins & delicious scones. Everything was terrific! Our room was private and quiet and relaxing...just what we were looking for! Highly recommend to anyone staying in the Anchorage area.

  • Liked — Fresh, clean, new and non-smoking, with a KING size bed & jacuzzi tub!
  • Disliked — hmmm can't think of anything, well ok, I am lazy, didn't care so much for climbing the stairs!

“Stay HERE with your Family”

I lived in Anchorage for 8 years before moving away in 2005, so I'm familiar with all the hotels. South Bluff B&B is the best value with a view in the city. Karin and Nick are gracious and totally tolerant of children (both formerly were educators). If you are traveling with
children this is the place for you. The spacious accomodations are new, the bluff view is spectacular and the snacks and breakfasts are simple and kid friendly. The location is a drive to downtown, but is more accessible to trips to the Kenai Penisula and Girdwood. This is a laid-back, kid-focused place so if you're looking for someone to cater to you stay downtown in the small room, big hotels. If you're looking to have an amazing Alaskan experience with your kids where you can be relaxed and amazed by the beauty of the state, stay at South Bluff.
