“Peaceful and quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2008

My husband and I just returned from our Alaska Land/Cruise vacation. During the land portion of our trip we spent two non-consecutive nights at Alaska's Natural Wonders. This is a large home on a nice sized lot near the Zoo. The house sits on the lot in such a way to provide lots of privacy.

We stayed in two different rooms:
The Majestic Mountains & Valleys which has a king bed and a twin in a little alcove area. The room also had a TV with DVD player. The room may be a little too plum for some folks - but no complaints here. Both beds were very comfortable, with nice color coordinated linens. The bath has a tub/shower combo, pedestal sink and shelves to store your stuff. Good water pressure, choice of softsoap or nice glycerin bar soap. Blow dryer is provided.

We also stayed in the Rivers & Streams which has a queen size bed and a separate room with two twin beds, a sofa sleeper and TV. The bath has a single sink with a large counter top, a garden window looking out the back yard and a large shower. This room has an exterior door that allows direct access to the hot tub and sauna. The amenities are the same in both rooms.

Upstairs is a huge (probably 1000 square foot) living room with many trophy mounts of moose, bear, and such. The community kitchen is bright and huge with a large table that can easily seat 12 or more. Breakfast one day was black bear sausage, bacon, french toast, and eggs. As a previous poster mentioned there is a coffee machine the produces various coffee, cappuccinos, hot chocolate and there are numerous syrups to customize your creation further. Breakfast the second day was at our request, bacon, eggs, and berry pancakes.

Adjacent to the large kitchen is a bright, light, gathering room with windows on three sides overlooking the deck and treed yard. There are two high tables with chairs for guest to gather and visit prior to breakfast or drink coffee and read the paper.

The home is well maintained and kept clean. The guest rooms are in the lower level, the owners suite and public areas are on the second level. This allows everyone privacy. The guest rooms are cutely decorated with an abundance of stuffed animals, knick-knacks, and floral arrangements.

The owner allows guest to use laundry facilities at no cost - a great plus after 8 days on the land!

We had a very enjoyable stay.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2008

Alaska's Natural Wonders Bed & Breakfast is an absolutely lovely experience. The guest rooms are huge and each is decorated with a different theme. The rooms are comfortable and really designed to help you relax. The common areas are distinctly Alaskan, with antlers and a real bear skin rug, right down to the plushy stuffed animals tucked away in nocks and crannies. The owners have really gone out of their way to make this place special. Window seats for two look out over lovely property, and decks that will offer spectacular views in the spring and summer. A short walk around the deck brings you to the enclosed jacuzzi and sauna, one more step to helping you relax.
In the morning the breakfast is better than anything you will find in a restaurant. Katherine is a true gourmet and serves Alaskan specialties whenever she can. When we were there it was reindeer and bear sausage, and it was delicious. The conversation as the guests gather at breakfast was relaxed and friendly, a wonderful alternative to noisy diners.
After all of that I was amazed to find the price was no more expensive than staying at a two star hotel. My husband and I loved it and we definitely intend on going back.

  • Liked — The whole house encourages you to relax.
  • Disliked — Going to and from the jacuzzi in the winter is a little difficult, but still worth it.

“Nice B&B tucked away in a quiet forested area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2007

We were passing through Anchorage and stayed at Alaska's Natural Wonders B&B for one night. It is off a main highway tucked back off the road in an area with a lot of trees so it is nice and quiet. We were in the 'Majestic Mountains and Valleys' room which was the one room with its own entrance and that was a nice bonus. I liked the layout of the room; it was spacious and the extra day bed was back in a cubbyhole area which gave our son his own little space. The room decor is an attractive Alaskan theme. Since we were there during the 'midnight sun' time of the year the light did shine through around the entryway at night but we were able to sleep fine with a not quite dark room. The bedrooms are on the ground floor and the upstairs has the large kitchen, a big open living area and the deck. There are a lot of windows in those upper rooms which brings in a nice view of all the surrounding greenery. I wish we had been able to spend some time just relaxing in the living room or out on their deck as it was quite inviting. The owners were very nice and happy to give us suggestions on our trip itinerary. The breakfast was ample and there is a neat coffee/hot water machine and all sorts of flavored syrups for those who like flavored coffees. My son liked the fact that he got whipped cream on top of his hot chocolate. We would definitly stay here again.
