We were a group of 5 visiting Alaska from Ireland. We spent our first week at the Lakeside Jewel. We arrived late and felt at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms were spacious, clean and the beds comfortable. The lakeside setting is wonderful, a great place to chill out after a long journey. Caroline is a great host, helpful and friendly as well as being a great baker of sweet cakes.

This B&B was nicer than the Sheraton I stayed at in downtown Anchorage! I had my own fireplace, washer and dryer, refrigerator, jet tub, and a beautiful view of the lake and land! I will be coming back to stay this winter because there is no other place I can think of that is nicer for the price!!

Our trip to Alaska was the middle of a 2 week, six state tour. We had booked the "Top of the World Suite' as it included laundry facilities, a beautiful view and was located close to the airport. Upon our arrival, we were physically exhausted and arrived to find "home". The bed was so comfortable that we had no problem sleeping even though it was bright out. We thoroughly enjoyed the "sunroom" with the relaxing view of the lake. Even though they serve breakfast at 8:30, Caroline made our breakfast ahead so we could microwave it, in order to catch our early morning train. A surprise plate of lemon bars awaited our return. The food was FANTASTIC! I only wish our last breakfast could have been our first as our hosts are excellent goodwill ambassadors for Alaska. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Alaska, save our gem for us!

We booked this B&B after the Mangy Moose had no room for the end of our trip from an Alaskan Cruise which was at the tail end of our honeymoon trip. We took the top of the world room, and although comfortable (the bed was wonderful) we found the decor quite bland. The entire B&B was clean, and the permanent renting residents there very friendly. The main living area of the B&B offered a rather large TV with cable for entertainment, but the room itself had no cable, and only a small TV with a built in VCR which had terrible quality. Not a good place to want to stay in to watch a movie one night. The Large King bed was very comfortable. We could not figure out how to turn on the fireplace despite us both knowing how to use one. The Jacuzzi tub was quite nice to relax in, and the towels were definitely better than any hotel. The next morning for breakfast was when we were very disappointed. Having stayed at many B&B's, one would expect the breakfast to be more than a couple of muffins, some toast, and salmon cakes. That was all we were provided with. The staff was friendly, but they do not live on site. For the amount of money we paid(187.00 a night) we could have stayed at the marriot and had a full buffet breakfast, cable TV, and a bed just as comfortable. The location was lovely, but Anchorage itself leaves something to be desired.
