My husband and I stayed at the Oscar Gill House for our one night in Anchorage before moving on to other areas of Alaska (in July 2010). This bed and breakfast definitely exceeded our expectations!

Our room and bathroom were very clean. The location was great, right across the street from a large open park (there happened to be a festival going on while we were there) and just a few blocks walking from downtown Anchorage. Although we walked throughout the whole city, we were offered free bikes to ride around town.

Our hotess for the night is a friend of the owners, and she made us feel welcome and comfortable for our whole time there. Because the other group staying at the Oscar Gill house that night was leaving very early in the morning, but we were not, she scheduled two different breakfast times based upon our schedules. She asked us what we like to eat the night before, we said anything, and she made an us amazing breakfast. We had asparagus omlettes, roasted potatoes, tons of fresh fruit, juice, tea, and coffee.

It was a great beginning to our trip. I really do wish there was an Oscar Gill House in every city, but unfortunately for me there is only one!!! If I ever make it back to Anchorage I know I will stay there without hesitation, and highly recommend it for your Anchorage stay!

We only stayed one night (Aug 2011) after a long flight from NYC, but could not have asked for a nicer welcome to Alaska. Clean room, comfy bed, excellent bathroom amenities! Mark Lutz sent us off with a delicious breakfast, shared history about the house and the place, and even lent us a Milepost (map book) for our 10-day trip through Alaska. Highly recommended!

We stayed at the Oscar Gill B&B for one night on our extended trip in Alaska. I had high hopes for the place because of its historical nature. The place was interesting and our stay was enjoyable but we also stayed at better places on our trip.

Our room was large, clean and comfortable with period furniture and accessories and the decor of the B&B fits its history. The downtown location is very convenient to restaurants and shopping. The breakfast, while adequate, was not as good as some of the breakfasts in other B&Bs we stayed at.

There was nothing specifically bad about the place - it is just that it was not as good as I hoped.

The Oscar Gill House is a beautifully restored historic B&B. Travelers that enjoy historic properties will find this B&B to be charming.

The rooms and bed are very comfortable. Mark, the owner, gave us a great tip about the Alaska Native Medical Craft Shop as the best place to find native art for sale. Breakfast was good. The location is walking distance to downtown.
