When I am in Anchorage this is my hotel of choice. Well managed, friendly staff, centrally located for the business trip or as a tourist. Also a great concierge level and club room, only in town !

I understand that the interior is going to have a complete make over this year which should make it even better.

If driving I seen what appeared to be two options for hotel parking (as I seen no free option), one is valet parking $24.00 a day or the parking garage located across the street and to the right for $24.00 a day (as told by the valet). I agree with some of the other comments as the rooms could use a little up dating. The restaurant has a breakfast buffet but was told on days of low hotel occupancy the buffet is not available. I had breakfast and dinner in the hotel a few times and found it very good. Also the staff was very friendly and about a 15 minute drive from the airport (ANC).

I really wanted to give this hotel a better than poor rating because the staff was SO nice and helpful. The rooms are just so outdated that I couldn't bring myself to give it anything better than poor. The TV's are still the old box TV that are in an armoire. It has been a long time since I stayed at a hotel that didn't have a flat screen TV. Is it just me...or do you feel like you have gone back in time when a hotel doesn't have flat screen TV's? After one night I switched to the SpringHill Suites by the University which is a new hotel.

I travel frequently to Anchorage on business, and anytime I have meetings downtown I choose to stay at the Downtown Marriott. It is hands-down the best hotel in the city. The receptionists are always friendly, the valets and bellhops are fast and remember you, and you're within easy walking distance of a number of great restaurants and shops. The views from the upper levels are excellent and always relaxing. I know many people will rave about the Captain Cook, but I have found the Downtown Marriott to have bigger rooms, better service, friendlier staff, lower prices, and to be more luxurious than the Cook.
