“Great Anchorage Honeymoon Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2011

My wife and I spent our 8 day honeymoon at the North Country Castle in late May 2011 in the Turnagain Arm room. Overall excellent experience. Some key points on this B&B:

1) The house, room, and surroundings are beautiful. The room features a private balcony overlooking a wooded area with Turnagain Arm inlet off a few miles in the distance. Great spot to enjoy the morning coffee. The room has a wood fireplace, large two sink bathroom, and one of the largest tubs I have seen.
2) The owners were super helpful in giving recommendations on dinner locations as well as sightseeing outings. Cindy was our prime POC throughout the visit and had a good balance of making herself available but not overly intrusive.
3) Location is at the end of a circle down a dirt road, approximately 20 minutes from the Airport. Quiet, conveniently located.
4) We selected the continental breakfast for the first morning only (several food/service packages are offered). Excellent food with a definite focus on organic/healthy foods. Coffee was brew your own and available every morning.
5) I am hard pressed to select a major downside to the location. Two minor observations were room temperature and bathroom shades: It was about 65 high most days we were there. Even with the window opened and the balcony door cracked, it was a bit too warm for us in the room. The ceiling fan helps, but I find it hard to sleep with the constant breeze it creates. RE bathroom shades, although the bathroom is on the second floor and overlooks a wooded area, we felt a bit exposed without any shades in the shower area. Once the shower steamed up the window it was fine, but until then it was a little weird not having any sort of shade on the window. Both minor points, but worth being aware of if you are especially sensitive to either.

Overall, exactly what i had hoped for and what their website advertises (spend some time looking through their website in detail). I did a good deal of research to select a B&B for this trip and felt it paid off. I'd definitely recommend to others.

Thank you so much for your kind words about our home and your experience with us on your honeymoon! We hope you are enjoying the warmth still gracing your area--as we have been "enjoying" temps in the zero range for several weeks now--since we returned from a trip that briefly and pleasantly included your own hometown, along with that early snowfall! And we are so sorry you were too warm at night while you were here...during nearly the only really "warm spell" we had all summer. Your kind comments will cause us to offer other means of ventilation to our guests should more extra warm weather show up. Meantime, we do hope you are sleeping cooler now!

“Beautiful home and friendly hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

My partner and I stayed with Cindy and Wray for two weeks. We stayed in the turnagain room, which is a very lovely room, and it has a HUGE jacuzzi and a wood fire. We were a little cold at times though, when the fire was not on. Cindy and Wray are very nice people, and helped us with information when we needed it.
The only downside to this accommodation is sometimes you feel in the way, as it is their house and you share a kitchen, dining and lounge. They are home most of the time.
Both the house and the hosts are very organic and enviromental concious, which is great.

We loved having you two visit, too! We were glad to provide a warm two week respite in Anchorage after your REALLY cold experience in the cabin at North Pole near Fairbanks! You are quite the "troopers" to come so far north for a month in the middle of winter... We remember your saying how much warmer you were with us than in Fairbanks, so we were saddened to learn you had been cold here, too--and we thought we had pointed out the thermostat in your suite that could have kept you warm and cozy with our warm floor heat... Happy (and WARM) First Anniversary, coming up VERY soon!

“Relaxing Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2009

How do you top the perfect Alaskan Cruise? With three relaxing days at the North Country Castle Bed and Breakfast. After the hustle and bustle of 1,000 people on board ship, the peace and quiet of this quaint inn was much appreciated. We found Cindy and Wray attentive hosts and the wonderful inn with views of the mountains and the bay a perfect place to relax. I actually saw my first wild moose (We thought it was the neighbors lawn ornament until we saw it was breathing, we backed away veeery slooowly). Breakfast was always wonderful and Wray and Cindy were a wealth of knowledge about the area and the best places to go site seeing. We would go back anytime.

“I'll stay in the Turnagain Arm Suite again, and again, and again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2008

We had a wonderful stay at the North County Castle B&B in Anchorage , Alaska. We arrived on 8/25 and left on 8/28 for a few days excursion to the Gate Creek Cabins, and stayed again at North Country B&B from 8/31 to 9/1. Our stay there was a most wonderful experience for both of us.
First, our hosts, Cindy and Wray, are very warm and welcoming. They enjoy providing a comfortable and rememberable B&B experience, and are warm and lovely people. The house is immaculate. The appointments and colors used are beautiful, and accent the features of this uniquely designed house. The breakfast area is set in a room with a bay window that looks out over a beautifully landscaped area. In fact, the landsacaping all around the premises, which is at the end of the road, greets you with beauty that is natural to the area.
We stayed in the Turnagain Arm Suite which has a very comfortable queen bed, a fire place, and a large sitting deck that over looks the water and some of the Chugach Mountains. This deck is on the second floor giving a view through the trees behind the house, and is a nice quiet way to relax in the evening. The bathroom is large, with double sinks, and the biggest jacuzzi I've ever seen.
Cindy and Wray provide a delicious and filling breakfast. The first day we had their tasty blueberry pancakes and grilled smoked bacon, with lots of fresh and flavorful fruit. All the food they give you is fresh and of the best quality. In fact, when we came back on 8/31, we found out Wray and Cindy had spent several hours that day picking wild blueberries in the hills around Anchorage. I think they had over 10 cups of fresh, sweet blueberries for their guests.
Wray and Cindy are dedicated to provide the best B&B experience possible, and they succeed. They are very gracious hosts. I will definitely stay there the next time I visit Anchorage, and the next, and the next ...
