“It was a good place to stay”

I was there in June 2010 and I took this hostel because it's in downtown area, walking distance from everything. The owner was very kind & he put me in a room with one more person so I can rest (the person I was with said she was there for some months and she liked it). He gave me some good advices about downtown area, too. The hostel was comfy as much as it could be, and was pretty clean. I liked the friendly approach of everybody.

“Excellent service which is worth of simple lodging”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

We are group of 6 friends backpacking in Alaska. We are not budget travelers, however we are used to use rather simple and ´value for moneý type of lodging and invest the saved $ into getting some more experiences during the trip.
We spend here our first night after coming to Anchorage and before heading to the south-east. The room was small-hostel like :-) However, the place was clean and the staff was more than excellent. John, the manager, and his guys were very helpful in all our questions starting ´where to buy the cooking gas at the best rate' finishing 'where to have a good breakfast' in case the by LP recommended Snow cafe is packed.

The location was very convenient regarding the walking distance into the downtown area of Anchorage-which originally was the purpose of staying in this place.

The hostel changes-in spring 2011 it was bought by Bent Propp Inn so you can most likely expect even more improvements as Bent is #1 in reviews.

“A wonderful place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

After several nights in an unacceptable hostel in Anchorage, this place was a pleasant fantastic surprise.

I had stayed there many years ago and it was OK. I gather that it had gone downhill after that but , let me tell you, now it is a very good hostel.

Manager and staff were very professional, atmosphere was good and the bed was wonderful. A good mix of travelers.

Location is great and you need to read the NEW reviews, after February 2011 (when new owner took over) to get a sense of this place.

New name is Bent Prop Inn, 700 H Street.

“DEPLORABLE!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

Hands down the worst hostel I've ever stayed at in my life, and I've been to enough to know. I don't even bother with hotels because normally I love hostels.

“A work in progress, but on the right track.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

Since Anchorage is now in full tourist season mode and hotels are so expensive I decided to give this place a try. A new owner is in place and is making major changes to both the exterior amd interior. What has been revamped is very nice and I expect it just to get better with time. It is a bit noisy at night and the doors to the rooms DO NOT lock. The owner says that is supposed to be done fairly soon. Even with all the updates being in the works there isn't a lot of construction noise or workmen you have to trip over. With the nice downtown location I expect this to be a grat place to stay in the future.

Room Tip: No idea.
