“Great personal touches”

This was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had (and I travel >100k miles per year). Terri and her staff were fantastic. They had terrific advice for getting out and about, they helped me to ship stuff back home, and every staff member knew my name right from the first day. Terri even extended breakfast hours for a few late risers amongst the other guests. The hotel itself has all the modern amenities you'd expect, but retains its old world character. Of course the breakfast is a nice touch. And it's walking distance from everything. Great place!

Room Tip: Quiet rooms face away from the street.

“Historic charmer”

We stayed here for one night in June at the conclusion of a three-week journey through BC and AK. Both the City of Anchorage and the Historic Anchorage Hotel were unexpected pleasures.

We had no expectations for Anchorage and assumed it would be simply a way-station prior to our return flight. Instead, we spent a thoroughly enjoyable 24 hours in town and wished that we had budgeted another day. Anchorage is a lively and interesting city with plenty to do and see, and this hotel is right in the center of everything. The location couldn't be more convenient, especially for the Segway tours which commence across the street. Give them a try -- it's a blast to glide around the city on them.

The hotel is indeed "historic" and some might find it "dated." To us, the quirky charms were irresistible. It really feels like you are in a movie from the 1940's. We had a Junior Suite on the top floor -- it's very roomy with a nice view of the neighborhood. No air-conditioning, but a huge standing fan was provided and it was more than enough to keep us cool on a warm night (the fan also added to the retro feeling). It's a lively neighborhood, but that's part of the charm (I will concede that we were there on a weeknight, so we didn't experience Saturday night revelry). We kept the windows open and had no difficulties. I'm a native New Yorker, though, and I love the sounds of the city.

The Historic Anchorage Hotel provides a unique atmosphere (and free breakfast!) at an unbeatable price. We will definitely stay again if we return to Anchorage.

“Home away from home”

I travel to Anchorage often and over the the last 30 years have stayed in most of Anchorages hotels. The Historic Anchorage Hotel is where I stay on almost every trip now. Terri, Jessica and the rest of the staff are amazing! Just spent 8 grueling days in Anchorage working, it was nice to be able to come 'home' every night.
The bar across the street can be rowdy, you might want to avoid those rooms.

“Good Value - well located”

Obviously not a modern hotel - but well above expectations of a hotel with the word 'historic' in its name. Clean, comfortable room - great complimentary breakfast. Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Must thank Jessica on the front desk when we arrived for her wonderful friendly and helpful attitude - a real credit to the hotel!

Room Tip: Our room was overlooking the main street - a little noise being only one level up, but with the adva...

“Avoid Room 201”

This was our first hotel after 12 hours of travel - we were dog tired and just wanted to sleep. However this room overlooks the junction of a busy road and an even busier bar opposite. We were kept awake into the wee small hours by raucous revelry seemingly right outside our window with swearing, singing and a police bust at 5am. Not ideal...in the cold light of dawn, the hotel itself was quite pleasant, and as we had found out, centrally situated :-(, but convenient to walk around from. So be warned - if you are going to stay there, ask for a room at the back, (unless you want to party all night).

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the main street
