“Home Away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

I went to Seattle for a month to work. Bed & Breakfast Inn Seattle was such a pleasant surprise. The home was beautiful -- both in layout and decoration. My room was very comfortable (sheets and robes were soft, as promised) and had ample space. The shared kitchen was larger than I expected and very well equipped. Since I was staying long-term, I did not have the full breakfast as part of my package. However, everything I saw them preparing looked delicious. The owners were so friendly and kind. I was worried that I would feel uncomfortable or out of place staying in a B&B for so long; not so. I honestly think that had the location and people not been as wonderful as they were, I would have felt really isolated.

The Wi-Fi internet worked great in my room, kitchen, and living room (the only places I ever tried to use it). However, I do know that a guest staying further from the modem than I had a slower signal. The kitchen and living room were always available for workspace if that's the case for your room.

The location was also great, since there were many different bus routes operating in the area that took me anywhere I needed to go. Pike Place Market is only like 14 minutes away by bus.

“Agreed... More of a boarding house then a B & B”

Probably my bad for not researching more but I was not expecting common bathrooms. Place is very clean, rooms are no frills, local decent. I would not recommend this for a business traveler as the wifi is non existent. Signal is so week that wifi simply is not possible. I was surprised that they don't make up the rooms daily...why?
For $100 it's okay but I wouldnlook around before coming back.

“Wonderful!!!”

We stayed 3 nights at the Capitol Hill Guest House and we were very pleased with our experience there. The neighborhood is very nice. The house is spotless. Our room was cozy (top floor) and beautifully decorated. The sheets, pillows, comforter, towels & robes provided were perfect. Breakfast was delicious. The first morning we had dutch apple pancakes & sausage, the second morning was French Toast, and the third morning was a choice of oatmeal or cold cereal. Coffee, juice, fruit & toast were also available. The place was pretty quiet while we were there. We said "hello" to fellow guests but people mostly kept to themselves. Other guests used the kitchen for preparing dinner, but we went out to restaurants down the hill on Broadway. We felt comfortable coming and going as our schedule allowed. I even stayed in the room one day to get some work done. Staff was professional and friendly. I felt so relaxed & at home, I really didn't want to leave!

“Self Serve”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2009

Great location. Must be geared for "long term" customers who have an established breakfast routine. B'fast is self serve. Toast, bagels that were still frozen, old Danish I found in a drawer. No fruit was put out, after in inquiry the Innkeeper replied, "oh really! No fruit. Let's see what I can find". Serve yourself out of the fridge. Spoons, bowls, cups I was told to "make myself at home" and just go through the cabinet to find what I need! There was a girl sitting at the table with the morning paper who was directing me to "make myself at home". I then find out she was the "innkeeper"! As per the posted sign, I needed to "put my dirty dishes in the dishwasher"! This is NOT what I expect from a Bed and Breakfast. If you have any question, JUST CALL AND ASK THEM ABOUT THE BREAKFAST AND LOADING THE DISHWASHER! If this is what you are comfortable with, then you might like it.

After four days, we had NO towel service. Hooks were broken in both the bathroom and guest room. When I informed Kate, she said it was hard to get with the owner to get these things fixed! The Wi-Fi did not work the entire time.

“Good home base for 3 week stay in Seattle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2009

Well located - on a quiet street on the edge of Capitol Hill but within a 15 minute walk of Broadway. Several supermarkets including a Trader Joe's within 3-4 blocks. Short walk up15th Ave to Volunteer Park. Buses within a block that will take you to Downtown (or walk there in 30 mins if you want the exercise.)
Old wooden building but new, almost sterile, decoration inside. (The lounge feels like the kind of place were you wouldn't dare put your feet up on anything.) Very clean. They have crammed in a lot of rooms and it's suprising it doesn't feel more crowded. The bathrooms can be a squeeze in the mornings but it works well enough. (So perhaps it's good they suggest limiting shower time.)
You help yourself to breakfast in the morning, it's quite social around the breakfast table, and there is a full kitchen available to cook your own meals. Kate is great host and helpful.
The only real negative is the arrival arrangements were left very loose. You need a cellphone to call someone to let you in. (I had to walk 3 blocks with my luggage to find a payphone.) Otherwise make sure you have a very firm arrangement for when you will be arriving. I don't know why they don't provide by email the combination lock for the back door and directions to find your room.
I stayed there for 2-3 weeks while considering moving to Seattle and the Capitol Hill Guest House made a great place to base myself while I got sorted. There were plenty of other people staying for just 2-3 days and they also appeared to be okay with the place.
