“Good value for the money”

It is what it is: a 50-year old three-story walk-up apartment building, converted to a hotel. Old, but pretty quiet (no traffic noise) and spotlessly clean. Nothing "ick". Appears to be very well managed. Updated amenities-- new sinks, new toilet. Each suite has a standard hotel air-conditioning unit. Very roomy, you definitely won't feel cramped. Suite's completely furnished, including all kitchen utensils. Kitchen cupboards are the shellacked pressboard ones that were common in the 60s. Again-- not fancy, but a super decent bargain for a good night's sleep. Wifi was up-and-down, but worked for the most part. Sattelite television worked fine. Parking is unsecure, but we had no problems. Room key opens door from parking garage to hotel, but the door was left unlocked for some reason. Tip for those who need to sleep late in the morning: tuck the bedroom curtains onto the window sill, and the room will stay dark.

“I'm a hotel snob and LOVED this place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

I usually stay at 3star plus hotels and was on an extended trip and needed a low-cost room w/ kitchen. This place makes me smile. It is a total throw back to 20/30 years ago and the deco shows it. It reminds me of my mother-in-laws basement and smells a little like it. It may have been outdated but it was CLEAN. The kitchen was great and within 1/2 block of Safeway. There was free parking underneath (a little tight but I had no probs w/ my sedan). The full size fridge, oven and microwave made staying on a budget way more fun. I don't want to leave out: lots of room, free internet, helpful staff, super location for UW visit. The price was great, the bed was comfy and I totally will stay here again.
-Even if the Crowne Plaza is available.

“Great area, huge suites!”

Just two of us stayed in one of their suites, and it could have accomodated at least another four people. The decor goes back to the 1970s, but is clean, and the the kitchen, bathroom, lounge area, bedrooms are spacious and very well equiped. We loved being in the university district, which was a short bus ride from downtown, had loads interesting shops, independant cinemas, restaurants, bars etc.. Seattle is a fantastic city, and this porvided a great base to explore.

“A Bargain Basement Accommodation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2008

For the bargain price we paid for this room, I'd like to give this property a glowing review. Given the rate of $95 in the summer months, with internet and parking included, it's hard to complain. But, alas, it's often true that you get what you pay for.

The suite is just basic, very basic, and that's what you're paying for. All the furnishings are quite dated but adequate. It was great having a full kitchen for cooking, but the cooking utensils, plates, cups, glasses and silverware were all very limited. It's a good thing we brought along our own glasses! Of course, the number of utensils and such may vary from room to room and if we had asked, we could have perhaps been offered more forks, more glasses, or best of all, perhaps even a serviceable cutting knife. If you're planning to cook, check out your kitchen cupboards right away and ask if you can get additional items which were definitely lacking in our particular suite.

As others have mentioned, the location is great, especially if you're specifically visiting the U-District, and there are numerous ethnic restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores within easy walking distance. The University Motel Suites is definitely a throwback to another era when compared it to the surrounding modern multi-story apartment complexes.

I would recommend this hotel if you're on a tight budget and aren't looking for the deal of the century. It's old, it's dated, and it has that musty apartment building odor that just didn't do it for me, but might not be noticeable to the next guy!

“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2008

I stayed here with my teenage sons. The suite is very spacious and well equipped. Shops are 2 minutes walk away in quiet suburb of Seattle. The staff were friendly and helpful. Next time I stay there I'll request not to be near the laundry though, as the smell was a bit strong sometimes. This hotel is very well situated - only a few minutes off the main freeway.

  • Liked — Spacious and well equipped
  • Disliked — Smell from the laundry down the hall
