We stayed at this hotel after getting off the Alaska Marine Ferry from Bellingham, Washington. We brought our car and wanted to get a nights rest before heading off to the Yukon.
I'm glad that we had a reservation, because the hotel was full and there were lots of people in the lobby . We were greeted warmly and immediately given a room. We stayed at a complex across the street from the main building and it was easy to get to. Parking was about 1 block from the hotel and it was convenient as well.
We really enjoyed our room. It was a little on the small size, but it was clean and comfy. The bathroom was modern and everything worked well. The beds were clean and we slept great................
Its an easy walk from the hotel to the center of town. Its a very touristy town but its still got alot of history and its fun to look in the shops.
We did not eat at the hotel, so I'm not sure about the food. We looked at the hotel menu and it was very, very expensive. We found a small resturant in town and had a great burger, even though that was 11.00 per person, not including anything else .
Our dog could also stay in the room with us at no extra charge. It was a very friendly and pleasant place to stay!

During our roundtrip through Alaska and Yukon this was the worst of all accomodations. The hotel was informed that we should come in late (by ferry). But after 10 pm you can find nothing to eat in Skagway and the hotel reception refers to a snack vending machine. The layout of the room in the annexes was a travesty. Two beds on one side and al the rest to the other side. Too much furniture. Poor sound insulation. You live with your neighbours. Early leaving guets rattle with their suitcases over the boardwalk. Bussess are loading with engines running.

An old building which is open only during the cruise season. A chilly night and the lobby was cold every time the door was opened. In the restaurant the staff could not get their act together and it was not the beginning of the season, either. No elevator in the main building. Other buildings were across the street and I don't know about the possibility of elevators there. A good location for walking about but how large is the town anyway?

We stayed in several Westmark facities on our Holland America tour in Alaska.
Starting with the McKinley Chalet in Denali, Wesmark-Fairbanks,Tok, DawsonCity,Whitehorse.  All of these facilities provided extremely satisifying quarters. Especially the small village of Tok.  That facility was nicely appointed and made it known that they were interested in the travellers welfare. This brings us to the facility at Skagway.  I believe that AAAshould withdraw their rating of one star.  i intend on following through to inform them of my dissatisifsction.  The following comments were provided to the clerk at the front desk, assuring me that her supervisors wouls read the notes.
1.  No Wi-Fi.  present service is provided by a vendor, ATT Ibelieve, who charges extremely high fees for the service which is part of the services at other Westmark fscilities.
2. The room,409,is small, a double bed fills the room.coupled with the presence of 4open suitcases, the room is a fire hazzard due to door being blocked.
3.  Suitcases and room furniture is placed in front of operating electrical heaters.
4.  Bathroom. has no place for toilet articles, had to use the toilet seat.
5.Bath towels were extremely small
6.Bathtub failed to drain.  Two inches of water was standing after a relatively short shower
7. No space to  walk around room with stepping over the sole chair,luggage or the electrical cord for the fan plugged in the sole receptacle in the room.
8. No ocassional chair was available for dressing except the edge of the bed which wad also taken up by the desk chair tha was up against the chair and bed
9. The desk was placed in front of a electrical heater.
10.The alarm clock was not operational.
 11.  The passage wy light outside in the walkway was very distracting.  The room shades/drapes failef to block the light
As presiously stated, The Westmark facilities across Alaska and the Yukon Territory provided outstanding service to the weary traveller.  The facilities were great as exhibited by the two and three star ratings by AAA.
He skagway unit is situated in a larger population,both locsl and tourist, and fail to provide facilities commensurate with Holland America's claim of Through excellance we create once in a life time experiences every time.  Holland America attained this level in all but forhe stay at Westmark-Skagway.

one last commnt the personnel meeting the public were very polite and responsive.  The fcilities are a dump
