“A Terrific Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

My wife and I stayed in The Eagle cabin for 3 wonderful nights. I won't post pictures as the pictures on their website are 100% spot on. The cabin is big - lots of room to roam around and the bed is perfect. The place was top notch clean (and I'm fussy about that) and in great condition. There's a covered porch that is a great place to unwind.

It has pretty much everything you need BUT if you're used to hotels you need to bring stuff like a hair dryer, shampoo and soap. They supply the towels and all bed linens. There is a 5 cu ft (about) refrigerator and a microwave, as well as some dishes, glasses and cups.

Our experience was that the response time when trying to make the reservation was slow. It was months ahead of time and after the season, but I mention it in case it happens to you. Not a big deal, except I was trying to line up a trip and had to wait on them.

The wait was absolutely worth it. The setting is great - you're out in the woods a couple miles from Skagway. Easy to get to as long as you have a car or a ride. I wouldn't try to walk there. It's a couple miles from the dock and part of the road is not "walk friendly".

There are about 40 steps to the cabin, so if you have mobility problems this is probably not for you. No wi-fi, which I missed. We use it to keep in touch with friends so that was the only thing I would like them to add.

Helpful hint: The Skagway Library in town has wi-fi. Everywhere else I found charged for time. It's a huge cruise destination so everybody's trying to make a buck during a pretty short season.

Skayway Bungalows have been doing this for more than 10 years, so they've got it down. We met people who have stayed there every year. We will definitely stay here when we return. It beats the heck out of the hotels in town - at least the ones I saw.

“Wonderful!”

Four of us--two couples--took both bungalows for a stay in late June. The bungalows are beautiful, roomy, spotless, and very comfortable. The beds were wonderful, the water nice and hot, the kitchenette great, and the views and setting outstanding. We couldn't have asked for more. It was a great spot for relaxing and regenerating after a long trip through Alaska and the YT. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

Great place, very clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay there. Beautiful views and away from all the cruisers. Dyea Road is a great place to explore. I highly recommend this place. It's a great bargain too.

“Terrific”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 June 2008

Due to arriving late on the ferry, Nan came out and picked me up at the terminal. The cabins are warm and inviting, totally surrounded by trees. A kitchenette fully equiped, and a good shower. I couldn't resist turning off the heat, opening the windows full, grabbing the extra blanket. and sleeping to the sound of the wind in the trees and the Skagway river.

“A Gold Rush Homestead with Comfort and Convenience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2003

This is the perfect alternative to Skagway's historic (Victorian decor with a small room) gold rush era hotels and those of the motel and hostel persausion. It is a great place to reread a Jack London's "The Call of the Wild" and find yourself in the middle of it all only a mile or so from Skagway. The friendly resident dog, a beautiful husky, stands guard when you spend time on the 16 foot wooden deck. The web savy Nan Saldi and her husband provide two very nice and sturdy log cabins with a view across the Skagway river gorge to Reid's Falls.
Extras include a plentiful supply of coffee and teas. Since we rented a car, we skipped the train and drove over White Pass to Emerald Lake just beyond Carcross. In the fall, the golden colors of the birches, alders, and aspens are a must see. The turqoise color of the glacial lakes is also amazing. You will still have time to tour the Gold Rush Museum and do a little shopping if your ferry leaves the next evening.
I recommend the Sweet Tooth for breakfast and the upbeat and fun Skagway Fish Company for dinner offers excellent seafood for dinner. On a clear night, your chances of seeing the northern lights are very good according to the guest register. Simply wonderful!
