“Convenient and just what your one night needs.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2009

Right in the centre, get a room overlooking the viaduct. Reminded me of dozens of other classic middling French provincial small town hotels which seem to stay the same down the decades. It is yards from the morning market and three or four good restaurants and has an interesting but not exceptional one of its own. My kids like it. Pity the booze cruise out and back autumn/winter trips by brittany ferries to nearby Roscoff from Plymouth don't allow one night in Morlaix but when coming back from longer trips this hotel is perfect for that one night stay. Old panelling, eerie staircase, high ceilings and french plumbing; great stuff.

“Lovely rooms, but who turned off the lights?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2008

A large hotel in the center of town. I scored a very nice corner room with a view of the viaduct. The bathroom had an actual bathtub and the bed was fabulous. The decor was lovely.

The halls were dark and unlit, and I mean pitch black. If there were motion sensors, they didn't work. It was like this the four times I had to go to and from my room. I had a flashlight in my purse, fortunately.

Wifi in lobby only, next to a really nice bistro with a good menu. I was called to meet a ride at 5:00AM and the desk clerk had an espresso ready for me when I got to the lobby. Thoughtful people there, lovely and quirky place, good rates.

  • Liked — Location, pretty rooms, big bathrooms
  • Disliked — No lights in hallways

“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2006

Arriving in the town late, my wife and I walked straight into the hotel, which is located in the centre of town.

After some discussion we were offered a rate of €70 for a smallish room in the main hotel part (we turned down a poor one at the back of the hotel). I agree with another reviewer that the bathroom was not very convenient - very little space between the toilet and sink, no shower - not even a hook for the shower.

The old woodwork in the lobby including the staircase is beautiful, and the place seemed generally well kept up. The staff were polite.

We didn't go for breakfast, prefering a 'tartine' and cafe creme at a nearby cafe, much nicer and less expensive.

We wouldn't have stayed for the full price for the room in the high season, but were happy enough with our deal.

So - great location in a very picturesque old town, room acceptable (a small investment in the rooms would work wonders!). Our restaurant recommendation is "La Dolce Vita" - 1 minute from the hotel; very busy (at least on Sunday, so bring time!), good food, great atmosphere.

  • Liked — central location, nice lobby
  • Disliked — bathroom
  • Tips/Secrets — Some rooms seem rather better than others; also staff were willing to negotiate price.

“Ridiculous Bathroom!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2006

We made a tour of Brittany and stayed at this hotel for one night in a triple room.
The location is perfect - from the balcony you can see the bridge overwhelming the city and it is a stone's throw from the city center.
The purpose of this hotel is definitely to bring you to the good old times a century ago - I especially liked the woodcarvings in the lobby and on the staircase! Our room was obviously one of the most budget in the hotel (I got it for 85 euros on the internet, the hotel reservation manager quoted 100), but I would say the room was still overpriced, the furniture was absolutely plain and artless, none of those nice stuff you can see on their website. The bathroom was very inconvenient! They did not have either a shower curtain or a shower holder on the wall! as a result after three people had taken a shower there was a swimming pool on the floor, and all our toiletries on the washing basin were wet and dump.
And all door hinges badly need lubrication - they were very noisy!
The room was clean, the reception staff - very friendly and helpful, they spoke English ok.
We did not try breakfast as found the price way too steep (8 euros), just walked 2 min to the Cafe Terrace around the corner - they serve great pastries and coffee (and paid 8 euros for three people!)
if not on a budget I would stay there again

“Chic spot handy for the ferry”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2006

We stayed just for one night at this hotel in April. The weather was dreadful but we were delighted to have picked the Hotel de l'Europe as soon as we walked through the door.

The lobby is furnished with beautifully covered chairs. We paid 100 Euros for a superior double (ordinary doubles are available for about £50) and the hotel was obviously not busy as we were upgraded to a suite, which was huge, with two kingsize beds, a living area and separate bathroom. Compared to a lot of hotels in France, the beds were very comfortable. The room was very nicely decorated. We did not have time to try breakfast in the morning. The staff were friendly and polite.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a stopover near the Roscoff ferry as an alternative to staying in Roscoff - it's only 20 km away. Also, Morlaix is a great little town in its own right, for a weekend away.

If you've got time, try La Maree Bleue restaurant - delicious!
